Overall, I'm not a real big fan of the Rough Planet Travel guides, though this is a great tour guide to take with you on your trip to New Orleans, whether it is your first time or second. I have no hesitation in recommending this one. Only qualm I have about this guide in that no ratings are available, as found in Frommer's or Fodor's travel guides.
Being the first edition, it's very, very accurate - research has clearly been done specifically for it, prices are up to date as of the end of December 2010, etc. But the main thing that sets it apart - this guide is a sheer pleasure to read. It's just written very, very well. Which may make it slightly verbose for some, so beware. It's also thorough, fully sufficient for a trip, maps are very useful, etc.
It also does a good job alerting to potentially dangerous neighborhoods - too good of a job perhaps, as we felt much more relaxed by the end of the trip than after reading the guide and being ready to get mugged on just about every corner outside the French quarter.
Strongly recommend over other guides to NOLA.
