There just wasn't enough to this book to give it a higher rating. The characters are very deeply portrayed, yet still mysterious in their motives and background. The gritty scene setting - Skye's specialty - makes you feel as dirty and hopeless as all her other previous work There's not enough plot revealed to really know what is going on or where this story is headed, so it's actually hard to review this as a book, because the narrative arc is incomplete. What's been written is well done and makes me want to read the next one, but the reader should understand that unless they plan to continue the story, there is no satisfaction to be had from this.

Rough, is just that...rough in the best kind of way. I love Skye Warrens characters, they are damaged, make bad choices, do the wrong things, but you can't help but fall in love with them flaws and all! Colin and Allie are no exception they are truly compelling characters that I can't wait to read more about.

Allie is a young single mom trying to make it on her own, and Colin is a rough around the edges but gentle man who wants to help her. They both have secrets they are keeping from each other, question is, once those secrets are all out will it tear Colin and Allie apart? Or will it make them stronger?

Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. And I can't wait to read the rest!

Rough, by Skye Warren in the first book in her Chicago Underground Series. It is a dark romance, and Skye Warren is the Queen of this genre so this book does not disappoint! Allie is broken from a rape as a teenager by someone she trusted more than even her father. She has no faith or trust in men and even less faith in herself. She meets Colin and even though she can't understand why, he not only wants her but he wants to give her a better life, something she feels she doesn't deserve. And so the erotic dance of the dark begins.

Colin is quiet and mysterious. I'm sure he has secrets that when revealed will leave us in shock because that's the way of this amazing author. I can't wait for the next book to come out to learn more about this quiet, mysterious alpha male.

Skye Warren can weave a dark tale like no other. Her writing and magical use of comparisons pull you into the story and demand you feel the emotions of her damaged characters. Allie is totally lost. She is full of self hatred and self abhorrence that will totally gut you. Lacking any self confidence, she's not able to see her strengths and she has many. There was a lot I could identify with in her character and I'm sure every reader will be able to do the same.

One of this authors many talents is to weave humor in with the dark issues and she's done so in this book. I don't discuss content to avoid giving away spoilers so you'll have to one click and experience yourself. I laughed for five minutes straight at one "scene." Allie often made comparisons between how children see thing and how adults see the same things. This also provided several LOL moments.

The book does have a cliffhanger but it doesn't gut you and the book should be out soon.

I am a fan or rather I WAS a fan of Skye Warren. This series is not about the story, it's about 3 novella's sold at full book prices, except the 1st, it's cheaper to pull you in. The story is also disappointing as the details that make up a complete story are missing and it's a quick run through. Skye Warren has lost me as a fan and customer, not because of the story, (I can forgive an author for the occasional fail) but because of the blatant money grab.

Rough by Skye Warren wow what can I say this book it was excellent. This is a new series that is written by Skye. I really loved the story and the characters Colin and Allie and her daughter Bailey. I was hooked on the first page and couldn't stop til the very end. Now I gotta wait for the second one to come out to see what happens with Allie and Colin.

Allie is a tough female character who puts her daughter first and her second she will do anything to protect them both. Allie has had a hard life while growing up she was raped by her boyfriend when she was in high school. She comes homes and finds out that she is pregnant. Allie frequents the clubs to pick up guys to feed her sexual hungers. One of her night out at the club she meets a sexy stranger named Colin who is strong and tough and will protect those who are with him.

Wow what can I say about Rough I loved every minute of it. This series will keep you hooked and wanting more from Skye Warren. Looking forward to the second book in the Chicago Underground series.

This was my first Skye Warren book, and sadly will be my last. The book seems more like filler chapters with the core plot ripped out and thrown away. All of the details are missing, and weird, what I assume are supposed to be plot twists, are thrown in at odd points without explanation or resolution. I was not able to connect with any characters; even the hero and heroine. There was no pulling of heartstrings or emotions, no climaxes that made my heart race, and cold sex scenes. The hero, Colin, was a man of few, if any, words. He was described as demanding, but made no real demands. The heroine, Allie, spends a lot of the book blaming herself for a traumatic event that happened to her years earlier. An event that no woman should blame herself for.
I do not recommend this book.
