Emmy has a quiet strength in her own right. She is educated and grounded, but just like any young woman, she questions her direction in life… By following the advice of her best friend, they both end up on the sea, and it’s this change that gives Emmy the experience to grow in confidence, strength, and love. Stavross, the leading man, is quite mysterious at first and getting to know him is part of the fun. I really enjoyed reading his developing background and growth with Emmy.
Other characters are also brought to life really well. Emmy’s best friend Sophie and several crew members have pretty good appearances. All in all, the relationships aboard this story, personal and professional, all felt very natural! Some authors can’t translate human relationships into words very well, but Ava does it beautifully! Her POV changes are also very well done. It’s usually one of my pet peeves, having POV’s all over the place, but it was so easy to go back and forth here. You’ll really enjoy it! I guarantee you’ll even get some good laughs while reading this book.
What was five star about this book was the characters. They were all as fully developed as the novel length would allow. Each tidbit about them teased and hinted at future stories in the series. It's well written and really puts you in the setting. Plus, it's a wonderful peek into those huge luxury yachts and the people who crew them.
Emmy had potential as a nice character, and the story could have worked out if she'd been a passenger or if Stavros had acted even a tiny bit like the thoughtful and capable person the author started writing.
