I don't take time to write rviews very often. In this case though, it was warranted.

John Waite is one ofnthe greatest rock singers of our thine. Sadly for him, his fame isn't equal to his talent. Other than "Missing You", most people couldn't tell you who he is.

I've been a huge fan since the Babys, and own all of the recordings I've found that he's made.

This is a fantastic cd. Every song is great, with a few standouts. Johns voice is still terrific, soulful and full of expression and emotion. He still has the range too. Few singers of this era still have it like thiis, Paul Rodgers being the closest.

Buy this cd. You won't be sorry!

This is from my post, I couldn't do an actual review until the release date. I bought this cd from England on E bay, it came out in Europe in January. I have listened to it for the past week and really love it, it is very fresh, not 80's sounding, John looks forward, not back (yes he re-groves some older material, but makes it more "Modern"). As a fan I put this Cd up there with his best, and recommend it wholeheartedly. My import has 12 tracks. The 11th track is a remake of "Mr. Wonderful" (very good), and the the 12th is "Hanging Tree" (a very cool "story" tune). I really love all of the songs, there is really no "weak point" on this disc, no filler material (John does not bother with that). Here's what I think. I really Love the title song (Luis and John wrote it, works very well, wicked guitar riff), "Shadows" is "Born a single", "Evil" has a "catchy groove" and was a Kyle Cook and John Waite joint", "If you ever get lonely" is "100% awesome Waite", "skyward" has got a real "Feel good song" vibe to it, "Sweet Rhode Island Red" is a Tina Turner song and John "Just nails it, it is killer", "Love's..." and "Better off gone" are very good songs, very memorable, "Further the sky" is one track that I listened to and liked it more with each visit, not that its a negative, it's just got a different feel, and finally "Peace of mind" is one of my favorites, it is a departure from all of his other songs in the way that he narrates the story in spoken word, (I have heard him speak in videos, but I don't think in songs before) very cool idea, great song, really!. John is on tour supporting this album, do yourself a favor and check him out, it is worth every penny!!!

When a cd has one of the best classic rock tracks of the last ten years (Rough and Tumble), one of the best power ballads since the eighties (If You ever get Lonely) and one AC hit written all over (Evil) this mean that this is a winner! Congrats John!

John is back and in a major way! Like a fine wine, he has certainly gotten better with age. His signature "voice" is still very much in tact and his band locks in real tight with him. I can't recommend this enough. The first listen will convince you of this 5 star rating. The title track is my personal fav (at the moment). Very strong on all fronts (performance, production, etc...). Thank you John for delivering this masterpiece. Check him out live if he comes to your area (heck, travel to see him if you can as you won't be disappointed).

The legendary underrated rock singer-songwriter John Waite is back with a great new CD titled 'Rough & Tumble'. The CD is a balance of rock, bluesy & ballad tracks and the CD grows on you (more appreciative) with more listening! Amazon lists 10 tracks but my CD (from Amazon has "Hanging Tree" as the eleventh/closing track). The opening track "Rough & Tumble" : a great rock track with great vocals. The 'blazing' lead guitar intro is great & its sound is prominent throughout the entire song. Other great tracks include "Evil" (melodical track with wonderful guitar overdrive), "Skyward" (great mid-tempo track, starting okay with a rather great build to the chorus), "Further The Sky" (bluesy rock track with great guitar intro & great vocals), "Love's Goin' Out Of Style" (interesting/lovely guitar/drum intro, great bluesy guitar overdrive with great melody/lyrics 'she took me for a ride And I guess love's goin' out of style'), "Better Off Gone" (great guitar intro reminiscent of that in John Mellencamp's 2007 title track "Freedom's Road") & "Hanging Tree" (a slow, mellow but great closing track). My favourite track/gem/solid track is "If You Ever Get Lonely" : a beautiful ballad with a wonderful chorus reminiscent "Missing You" or "When I See You Smile". This my stand out track from this great CD & hence the title of my review. Okay tracks include "Sweet Rhode Island Red" (heavy guitar intro & up-tempo vocals. It's a 1974 Tina Turner's song, its interpretation could have been more inspiring), "Mr. Wonderful" (a bluesy rock track that starts quite well but the build up not spectacular, it's John Waite's 1982 composition) & "Peace Of Mind" (okay alternating 'talking' & 'singing' vocals). On the overall, this is a CD release that grows on you with more listening, well balanced (rock, bluesy & ballad track) from rock's talented underrated singer-songwriter John Waite, a highly recommended CD listening.

Before this release, "Figure In A Landscape" was my favorite JW set of music. Rough and Tumble tops it. The band is tight, the songs are well written and John's voice is in top form. Much of the keys are gone in favor of excellent sounding rock guitar by Kyle Cook from Matchbox Twenty. This is basic Adult Album Rock, no teeny-bop-pop BS here. John Waite is the most under-rated singer/songwriter of our time. John's solo music is far better than anything he recorded with The Babys or Bad English. Give this CD a listen, you will not be disappointed.
