Few men venture into Romancelandia, and seldom under their own name. Because I hadn't noticed the name when I bought the book, and the print on my Kindle list of books ils so small, I was surprised to find the book I had just enjoyed was written by a man. Pure romance with the guaranteed HEA is supposed to be Kryptonite for anyone with a Y chromosome.
Somehow Joseph Flynn missed the memo. He delivers the goods as well as any woman with a sympathetic heroine who doesn't know her own strength until the love of a good man brings out the best in her.
I liked this book a lot and don't begrudge a minute I spent reading it. Well-developed characters, believable plot, credible dialogue, and a satisfying ending will always do it for me.
I read this book in one day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the balance of demons versus redemption, love versus hate, family & betrayal offset by family & forgiveness. I appreciate the role religion played in the life of Manfred; nothing preachy but solidly ground in faith. The protagonist Robin; her sharp wit and quiet persecution, only to be eventually won over by the strength of love for both Manfred and eventually, Bianca. I loved the "park" Robin built in her home; her private escape and place of solitude. It reminded me that I, too, have a private place of escape where I often go to "work it out".
There is so much meaning is this wonderful story, brought to life by characters which are introduced perfectly and developed well. A touching story, a humble story with a reasonable, happy ending.
A true treasure!
The only point that I have to quibble with is that I got tired of waiting for the author to reveal why Robin needed to gain 85 lbs. of protective armor. However, by the time Flynn does reveal her secret, I don't think that anyone is surprised.
Bianca was the character who surprised me the most. I liked her the least for most of the book, but in the last few chapters she had me laughing out loud.
If you enjoy light, romantic comedies, give this book a try.
