How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

This is a terrific volume of a terrific series. Every paragraph has a gem of interest, every description lights up. The best of writing, the best of history.

I had this set in cloth but it got wet. Since I go back to it often, I decided to replace it with leather. The books are great for a history nut and the leather set is beautiful on the shelf.

Will Durant's entire set of The Story of Civilization is a fantastic outline of (mostly European) history, written by an extremely wise man. The whole set is wonderfully readable!!! It can be read cover-to-cover, or dipped into as one wants.

I'm enjoying this volume as much as the previous ones. This is a great series to read.

I've reviewed this series before. I am working my way through the series. I read one book a year and it takes me about three months. These books are dense, very dense. Not hard to read - the Durants are gifted writers - but filled with all the changes in leaders, arts, religion, architecture, etc. It helps to have Google nearby so you can look for the images that he describes. Sometimes I will skip a few pages or paragraphs. The authors have used two fonts so a reader can discern what parts are most worthy. I have really enjoyed the series and gaining some understanding of where we have come from (or still are). But it takes some dedication to keep at a book for 700 plus pages. I have about three books to go.
I have also found it useful to have both the hardbound and a Kindle version. The books are heavy and do not travel well. The Kindle versions require too much page flipping. It is nice to alternate according to physical comfort.

Over the past several decades I have been reading these books by the Durants. That indicates how much I enjoy them. Now there is just one more volume. Scares me. Will it the the last book I ever read?
