Update - the returned "repaired" unit still is defective exactly the same as before. In voice said a part was changed, but it didn't address the defect at all. Will not give a refund even though this was broken from the factory and after a repair is still not fixed. Do they think we, or my family and friends, would ever take a chance on buying a Rowenta again, when they insist on no refund?
1. Yes, it has a reservoir for on the fly water refills. And, no the original did not.
a. You had to wait until the pressure was lower before you could remove the cap.
2. Yes, the safety latch prevents the iron from falling off the base during transport. No, the original model did not.
a. The iron base is not light. No one should be carrying it like a sack of potatoes...you should pick it up with two hands. ( But that is small issues I have with the newer model)
I am not going to bore you with my more of my dislikes; however, I will tell you that it is in no way comparable to the performance of the original model! Sure it puts out steam but not a continuous stream like the original design. The newer model has a reservoir which feeds water into a second chamber to convert it into steam. The chamber should have a higher water capacity. Because when ironing, I hear the reservoir supplying water into the iron. Moreover, when that happens, my steam output suffers a noticeable regression. If you can get a new original design for performance however if you are accident prone then perhaps the newer design is more your style.
Both models will outperform any conventional iron, and I had the misfortune of owning the previous model before I elected to upgrade.

Spoke to Rowenta and they directed me to a service Center. I won’t go through that for a brand new iron that is less than 6 hours old. Thank you Amazon for doing a direct swap. I will update this review once I get the replacement. Great customer service from Amazon like usual...
---- UPDATE ----
Amazon is amazing... 24 hours later and my new Iron showed up. I can't wait to go home tonight and test the new unit (fingers crossed). I will provide another update once I have tested.
Thanks Amazon for the superior customer support.
There is so much steam that I run it on eco mode. I am not usually a fan of eco mode, but seriously, there is still so much steam in eco mode, it's more than enough. Try it.
Fast and very good ironing. No need to wait for the iron, or the steam, just iron as quick as you can and the result is perfect.
The only missing item amazon should carry is the rowenta PROTECTIVE SOLEPLATE ZD7900D1
It allows you to iron whatever fabric with cotton heat and not scorch your polyester, etc.
I don't want to bother playing with heat levels, so just snap this on and iron... steam will do it's job. I'll need to order this from rowenta.
When I received the item I was SUPER IMPRESSED that I got such a good deal for such quality item. Surely enough I put this baby to the test. I began with silk items which normally I find on cheaper irons with an all stainless steel plate tend to get dirty very easily. Not this machine! It glided well and the steam that it emits is very powerful and any creases vanish in seconds. You do not have to redo anything once it warms up this iron system delivers as a professionally ironed garment at the cleaners. Then I did sheets and here it delivered as well. I have not done anything heavy such as jeans yet but I plan to do so in the coming days which I will post. So far I have not checked the wattage for this machine but other reviewers said it was 1800 so it is heavy duty. It does have an ECO button which Rowenta says saves 20% of the energy. It is quiet portable and the iron locks onto the base from the front and back. The electrical cord unlike other more advanced models does NOT retract but has to be rolled up. I wish this iron came in a case. That would have been a plus for storage but that does not affect its performance. I have a home distiller which is a great thing to have when one needs to iron a large amount of garments. Story Short I am very impressed by this Item and totally thankful to INCREDBLE LISTINGS for having made it available at such a great price. Will certainly recommend it to anyone who wants some serious ironing system that delivers.
