While I love the Vornado 660, I don't think it's quiet powerful enough for a 15 x 15 living room. Also, I need to put it on a stool so that it sits by the sliding door and pulls air in. I wanted a stand-alone pedestal fan that looked nice, wasn't loud (I mean, who can play video games with the sound of wind blowing in their ears; how would you ever detect the Clickers from the Last of Us?) and could blow up a storm for those especially hot days that are becoming the norm. Initially I wanted one of those vintage-y Hunter fans, but I read that they were loud and didn't really generate or circulate much air. The Rowenta was my second choice and though INSANELY over-priced (for which I docked a star), I think it was a really good buy. It's definitely very quiet on the first and second setting. The third and turbo setting gets pretty loud but not as terrible as the Lasko Cyclone and is comparable to the Vornado 660 at the highest speed.Read more ›
I didn't want the typical white plastic oscillating fan(from a local hardware store), nor did I want a industrial style fan(hunter gunmetal fan). And just as importantly, I wanted a quite fan. So far so good. This fan meets all my needs. It was very easy to assemble. It took 15 min and all I needed was a phillips screwdriver.
Here are a few tips to help you with your decision to purchase this fan.
Some of the parts are plastic,(but not cheap tacky plastic). The blades are plastic, which you can see from the picture. This might be why some of the previous reviewers stated that it doesn't blow a lot of air. I believe that has to do with the size of the room you use the fan in. It's common sense that if the room is big you would require a fan with metal blades. This fan is primarily for my bedroom which is not that big. Therefore the plastic blades move sufficient air.
My only CON so far is that due to some of the plastic material, if you bump into it, it will wobble a little(hence the four star review). But since I don't have children or clumsy pets this is not a big deal for me. However don't worry, the fan is completely still while running. If you have children or clumsy pets you might want to consider a fan that is all metal(something similar to the hunter gunmetal fan) because it would probably be sturdier.
Finally, is it quite? YES !!! Lets be realistic, it's quite not silent. This fan makes less noise than the extremely expensive Dyson Fans(Dyson AM03 Pedestal Fan)which I tested in a dept store. I will update this review if any new developments occur.
PROS: Fan is quiet, powerful, heavy (solid), looks nice, and we use it daily to keep us cool. We liked it so much, we bit the bullet and bought three!
CONS: The grills rusted in less than one year, and now are completely unusable. In fact, they ruined two of my wife's shirts when she was moving the fan. The fans have always been used indoors. We live in Hawaii (which is why we need fans), but do NOT live near the water, so it is not exposed to salt spray or anything like that.
BIG FRUSTRATION: Customer service was not what one would expect from a company that charges $120/fan (and for a customer who purchased three of them). I've spent hours taking pictures and e-mailing back and forth (16 back and forth e-mails and counting). At first, they told me it looked like dust and grime, and to wipe it off -- and they stated (and I quote) "Since these fans are stainless steel, they cannot rust." Ah, if only it were true!
We tried cleaning the grills as they recommended, and when that did nothing, we even tried with a little Brillo pad, but none of the RUST was coming off (we took more pictures and sent to them.)
So what would it take for me to change this review? Simple. Send me new grills (and I will happily return the old ones so they can learn from my pain what must be a fault in their design or manufacturing). So far, we remain at an impasse. My next step is to request a full and total refund of all three fans. And to keep making sure all new or potential customers realize the problems with this very expensive fan, and with the failure of their customer service to stand behind the product.

I spent more money on this fan with high expectations for its quietness. The base is quite sturdy, but the fan itself doesn't feel that way. Read morePublished 1 day ago by Muppalla Sukumar
