For those of us who knew him best, Dennis Hudson demonstrated a little-known talent for writing in "Royal Blue." The fictional town and fictional characters in this book are rather transparent for anyone growing-up in our home town of Louisville, MS. Dennis took complete literary license to embellish some of the clan that's featured in the book, but for anyone growing up here in the early sixties, the identities weren't very well disguised. A well-written, hard-to-put down book. I recommend it.
I lost a dear fiend when Dennis died in November of 2005. His family honored me by asking me to speak at his funeral. Being with Dennis was always fun and enlightening. I miss him tremendously.

*I first wrote the above review on August 18, 2001. Dennis Hudson passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2005 after a long battle with emphysema. He was a good friend, a great broadcaster, and this is still an excellent book.
