At Royal Canin, we understand that every cat is unique. That's why lifestyle, sensitivities and age are all crucial considerations when it comes to choosing the right dry or wet cat food for your feline. Only Royal Canin has nutrition for all the stages of your cat's life.
Cats have around 475 taste buds while dogs have 1,700 and humans have 9,000 approximately. Considering a desirable flavor is important, but it is not the only factor when selecting the right nutritional diet for your cat. Tasty cat food is a combination of the right nutrient balance with a satisfying texture, savory aroma, adapted kibble shape, specific kibble size and desirable flavors.
Royal Canin offers formulas for kittens, adults and seniors in addition to formulas for different lifestyle needs like indoor or spayed/neutered.
Incorporating a combination of dry and wet food can benefit your cat.
Dry: Concentration of nutrients and texture provides brushing effect.
Wet: Moisture content can help support healthy hydration.
With so many cat and kitten food options out there focused on ingredients, how do you know what’s best? Royal Canin knows there’s a science to it—researching each pet’s unique nutritional needs to formulate the most precise combination of nutrients in their diet to help your pet live a magnificent life. Baby cats grow so quickly that certain kitten foods aren’t tailored to their nutritional needs. A mother cat’s milk has protective antibodies to support her kitten’s natural defenses. But as a baby cat transitions to eating solids, their immune systems are still developing. This “immunity gap” leaves a kitten in a fragile state. With growing bones, emerging teeth, and developing immune and digestive systems, they need the right nutrition to grow strong. Royal Canin Mother & Babycat Dry Kibble feeds your young kitten’s magnificence from the very start with the building blocks needed for healthy growth: Essential nutrients like DHA for brain development. Immune system-strengthening antioxidants and vitamins. Highly digestible proteins and prebiotics for a maturing digestive system. And transitioning your newborn kitten to solid food is simple: The unique, tiny kibble can be rehydrated with warm water for a softer food that eases kittens into a more “grown-up” diet. With nearly 50 years of obsessive research, Royal Canin continues to deliver precise pet nutrition. This diet is made to help your young cat reach their most magnificent potential—starting with their mother. Not happy with it? Then neither are we. Our formulas are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. So fair warning, everyone loves it, it's great quality food, and cats can claw their way into the bag if it's left out.
Just a Note: Royal Canin also sells food that is just marked as "Kitten" food, not "Momma and Babycat" food, and the bags are almost identical. I purchased the Kitten food once when I wanted the Momma and Babycat food when I wasn't paying attention. The pieces are about twice as large which I personally didn't want, although the kittens didn't complain! So just be careful if it makes a difference to you.
The kibble pieces on this are smaller than those of the Royal Canin Kitten dry food that has the Persian cat shown on the bag (not the spay/neuter variety). This makes the Mother & Kitten a good choice for very young kittens. Now that our kitten is about 5 months old, we've switched to the one that's for kittens from 4-12 months old.
Royal Canin does also make a "kitten" blend of cat food that can be fed to kittens at four or five months of age, but Mother & Babycat covers the first four months of a cat's life, which are the most critical for proper development. It also covers a Queen by maintaining her health as her body is depleted of essential nutrients in the nursing of her babies.
One can add a little water to the dried food until it softens, and then lightly ground the pieces creating a pâté like texture, but I have found that it is much more beneficial to feed the dried food as is, in combination to the mousse (wet food). Royal Canin offers an Ultra-Soft Mousse in the Mother & BabyCat line also.
As I mentioned in my review on the Royal Canin Mother & Babycat mousse: Over the course of the last several years, several of my girls have had litters of kittens. I have also fostered pregnant cats. It is imperative that kittens, as well as pregnant, and new mother cats, receive proper nutrition.
I feed Royal Canin Mother & Babycat, to all litters of kittens, and to their mothers. It is great for their brains, bodies, and coats. I also feed it to pregnant cats to help with the prenatal development of their litter, as well as to ensure that the soon-to-be mother cat is receiving all of the nutrition that she needs. A pregnant cat is eating for more than one, and in most cases, she is eating for an additional five to six babies.
Mother & Babycat dried food (and the mousse) is perfect for weaning kittens. The size of the food bits are much smaller than other brands of kitten food. This makes it much easier for baby cats, that are learning to eat dried food, to chew and digest. Weaning kittens don't have as sharp teeth as do adults, so the softer the food, the easier it is for them to eat it.
The texture is very appealing to kittens as they develop their preferences for textures, and flavours, of food. It is very easy to digest. It provides essential nutrients that developing kittens need. One can begin using Mother & Babycat once the kittens begin to wean, at about one month to two months of age, depending on the kittens. A weaning kitten will continue to nurse its mother, even up to six months of age. The act of nursing is calming to kittens, even if the mother cat is no longer producing milk. Generally, most kittens are fully weaned by two-and-a-half to three months of age, but some continue to nurse for several more months. While this is normal, the weaning time is generally shortened when the nutritional value of the cat food is good.
Royal Canin is an excellent brand of food for cats. I highly recommend it. I also recommend purchasing it from Amazon. Because Royal Canin is quality cat food, and not toxic junk, it is, in my opinion, very expensive cat food. With Amazon, the pricing is fair, there are always sales and special deals on pet foods, and with Subscribe and Save, one saves even more money with regular deliveries.
I have paid as much as $24.99 + tax, for this sized bag of food, when purchasing it in various pet stores. With Amazon, I have never paid more than $19. Amazon offers an excellent value for the money, and it is money well spent.
I am no longer using the Mother & Babycat, at this time, because the cats that I have have grown past the age where it is necessary. I have switched to them to different food. However, if and when I have another pregnant cat, or litter of kittens: I will begin using it again. I swear by it.
