Kat was such a likable character. She had a rough childhood, but she made sure not to follow in her parents footsteps. She is determined to have a better life and to make smart choices. I really respected her for that. Nico was great as well, I love how he "got" Kat. They have a great connection and it was fun to watch their relationship grow. The side characters were also a lot of fun and added a lot to the story.
I just thought this was a lot of fun and was hard to put down. In fact, once I started I couldn't put it down. The romance was great and even though they came from two very different backgrounds, you can totally see them make it as a couple. I highly recommend this to everyone!
Romance: Clean, mild innuendo and kissing
Language: None that I remember
Other: Mild talk of drug use, in a negative light
Read Again: Absolutely!
Sariah Wilson’s romantic comedy, Royal Date will capture your heart while giving you a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. I came across this book as a new release and decided to give this author a read. Sariah's style is quick witted and charming just like the main characters she created, Nico and Kat. Their journey is sweet, charming and endearing.
Nico is enthralled by Kat's demeanor when he spots her sitting in the lobby of his family's ski lodge reading a book. She isn't trying to impress anyone. She doesn't dress to impress like her best friend, Lemon. She likes to blend into the background and not attract attention to herself. So, when Nico tries to introduce himself, she discourages his advances with snarky quips and one line answers. He however, is not deterred by them. He sees the diamond in the rough and wants to know more about her.
After their encounter, Lemon and Kat decide to hit the slopes when Kat realizes she left her pass in their room. They decide to meet up on the mountain. When Kat returns to the ski lift, she can't seem to locate Lemon. She ends up leaving the beginners slop and finds herself on a dangerous trail for more advanced skiers. She is rescued by the one and only Nico, who ends up protecting her from a life threatening accident. Nico takes charge and uses the accident to get Kat where he wants her, in his home, where he can get to know her better. Only problem is, Nico is a real Prince and lives in a castle with his family! Not anything like Kat is accustomed to!
The secondary characters are well developed and you are thrust into their family’s dynamics that the author has created. The siblings, especially the youngest one, Serafina, are absolute joys to be around. The warmth and acceptance the family bestows upon the visiting ladies during the Christmas holidays brought fond memories of my childhood back.
This book is full of endearing moments between the hero and heroine. The relationship between Kat and Nico grows throughout her holiday stay in a foreign country. She doesn't believe in love or happiness due to her unfortunate past and overcoming those memories becomes a challenging hurdle for Kat. I found this read enjoyable and relaxing while at the same time wishing for a HEA for Kat and Nico.
Character development is minimal but each character is very endearing. It's very easy to fall in love with the prince and his family and the heroine's best friend. Overall, the cast encourages warm feelings. The male lead is sexy, chivalrous, and sweet--everything a prince should be. The main character has relate-able insecurities and her past touches on some more serious struggles without drowning the overall energy of the book.
I'm putting this in my top 5% of books that I love, and I have read many (we're talking thousands). This is escapist romance at its best. This is a warm and fuzzy blanket, hot chocolate, roaring fire, and someone to cuddle with all wrapped up in one (so what if he is watching basketball while you are reading romance). I loved the characters. I loved those who were loyal and appropriately hated (I know. My mother always said that was a strong word, but Claire = hated) those who were naughty.
It is a fairy-tale. It isn't necessarily a new plot. (Okay, it's been done thousands of times) Yet, it will make you smile after a day long on trials and short on ice cream. It will infiltrate your thoughts hours and days later. It's feel good, simply feel good romance. Thanks Sariah Wilson.
