Mathias has created a great cast of characters... My favorite was Zah. She is a strong female, and she can kick some major butt. The other characters I loved were the dragons...seriously kept me on the edge of the seat.
--Michelle Goodreads Review
The action is fast and furious, and the novel has the author's trademark twists on the traditional storyline and keeps one guessing where it will go... discovery and magic, written in the exuberant style of the author which is familiar from The Sword and the Dragon. It is a fun book that I heartily recommend.

An exciting step into a mythic world of awe-inspiring escapade, wild battles, exciting characters. Action is fast paced, satisfying in quantity and moves the reader at a brisk pace from page to page at a breathless tempo
--MJ Hollingshead Book Review
Mathias is a master at characterization. The dragons are magnificent in the story. I also enjoyed the characters of Zah and Jenka. The plot is intricately woven with twists and turns that will keep the reader guessing. The story has a mythical quality. Fans of fantasy will not want to miss this one.

You might find the reason in this story.
The story unfolds against the background of the four parts :
The Frontier which is in the mainland and Kings Island. Jenka is the young huntsman and leads our story to the end with our good dragon Jade.;
Dungeons and Dragons.
Dragons capture the crown prince, Jenka is imprisoned but Zah, his good friend who has mind sense, can communicated with him through mental powers. Dragons have bond-mates, the one protects the other and so they both gain confidence and force.;
High Magic; and
The Dragon Tear.
Mathias is seasoned writer, has a sophisticated style and presents striking and vivid descriptions. It is a consistent, complete and rich reading experience with incredible magic and fantasy.
Obtaining knowledge of myth and dragons before you read the book, will enhance your insight into the life of dragoneers, their features, powers and shortfalls. Depending on the origin of the myth or dragon, a dragon gets his or her characteristics. A dragon can be depicted as a long snake-like creature with claws, wings and or many heads. Dragons might have fins of fish, horns of stags, fangs and be associated with mountains, forests and sea.
We experience magical descriptions in the story of dragons and their activities in battle. Some dragons are known to kill humans, some may be benevolent and grant wishes, perform magic and use healing powers. Others again are demon-born, cruel sepent-like with burning breath and poisonous. They kill with stench or a burning gaze. They can secrete flames from their tails or like Crystal, a moutain white, glacial frost is abled to freeze ..They can have long heads, prominent eyes, large open jaw, a long tongues.... features just the author could imagine. We need to protect dragons representing nobility and intelligence. The character Zah is the intelligence representative and Prince Richard with his father are the royals.
It is a battle of survival between humanity and evil which involves the kingdom of Demons and its leader Gravelbone. His followers are hell born trolls and goblins which infest and kill humans, and good dragons with foul, dark magic.Taking and destroying the noble, spreading fear, poisoning and terror is what they do.
We see defeat, deaths and destruction of territory. Brilliantly told. But we also find courage, strength and regal might radiated to rescue in the darkness. Dragons are also bearers of intelligence and conscience and dignity but can be drained by evil incarnate. Minds are scrambled and power and purpose are destroyed within the other, if evil prevails. Evil can empty your soul and destroy that what is pure and wholesome. The demon dragons and followers can taint the good ones with evil.
The scare is that the crown prince , when abducted and tortured would fall victim to the enemy and be killed. He would suffer a whole in his spirit which housed the seed of good obtained by divine magic. Royalty had to be protected. There was solution: Magic.....Mysterian had power. She could help by squeezing the magic dragon tear, cast a spell and save the prince. Will she save him? The prince is protected in a glowing white cocooned body, for eternity or...... Is there a another prince in line ?
The strength lay in magic. If a dragon loses a part, his strength is also partly cut-off and magic is used as healing or restorative power. Further there is the instinct for survival and most of all, the seed of good. Life can be sucked out or life can be given. We see powers penetrate in a splendour of illuminations to invigorate, but we also see deaths in form of troll-infested corpses, marrow of bones scorched.
Mysterian has the power of the great emerald dragon's tear filling her with power. We need a leader, royal blood to guide them through the storms. The crown prince's last wish was: "Find what is good in me and use it." What did he mean? Could she, with her magic powers save him and the city? the kingdom? The fate of the prince was linked to the dragoneers who proclaimed to die as heroes. To take revenge. Will they?

My favorite aspect of this book is the author’s exquisite descriptions of the action and landscapes of the story. The ability to craft descriptive, but not boring, prose is a gift that is on display in this book and is the mark of a true storyteller. I was able to vividly conjure up images of the characters and setting in a way that added to the intrigue and engagement I felt while reading. M.R. Mathias also did a fine job of weaving together several equally-fascinating story lines into a tale that is rich, humorous and a delight to read.
This book is full of whimsy and takes the reader on an adventure through the story of a young man learning his place in the world amid the company of dragoneers. For the fast-paced, engaging plot and the cross-genre appeal (action, adventure, fantasy) of this unique story, I give this book a much-deserved 5 stars.
