The weave is very thick and fluffy, so I used a sticky water-soluble topper to keep the stitches on the surface of the towel. When I peeled off the very sticky topper, I really had to tug, but, the towels did not snag or distort in any way. You can't say that about Terry Towels and I think that is an indication of how they will wear. (I think the absorption properties made the Topper harder to peel off than usual because the fluffy fabric increased the surface area.) Next time I will use a non-adhesive topper, but then I'm not sure how I am going to draw positioning lines—with pins maybe.
As other reviewers have said, the color is a nice bright white and the hem thread matches. The hem all around is just serged, but it is neat and fairly straight. These towels will never have the Vintage look of flour sack towels, but they will look good with more modern designs. They do look nice enough to give as a gift once personalized.
After a few washings, I will come back and update this post to let you know how the embroidery holds up with washing. I will also try drying in the dryer on low heat to see what happens.
Embroidery pros: The bright white color really allows the designs to show up. The fabric seemed to stick tighter in my hoop than usual and there was no shifting or puckering. The hemming is nothing special, but it looks good enough to give as a gift when a design is added. I had no problems with snagging the fabric. These are not going to come out of the wash all wrinkled like flour sack type fabric towels.
Embroidery cons: You will have to use a topper. No fabric marker that I had was able to write on the towels. I had to put down removable tape to draw my lines. The next time I drew the lines on the topper. These will not work with single stitch redwork designs because of their texture. They will not make vintage-style kitchen towels. They are not really refined enough for embroidered bathroom towels.
The flower trucks would have been perfect on flour sack towels because they are a lightweight open design. But this type of design was a complete failure on these towels. A friend tried hard to convince me that the back side was the right side because the designs look better on the back.
I ran into a second problem. I had out-of-town guests who "helped" by putting the laundry into the dryer. This shrank the towels quite a bit and caused the designs to crinkle and the threads to suck into the texture of the towel (see photos). So, I do not recommend this type of embroidery on these towels. They will probably give better results if they are washed and machine dried first. Then use a solid design with substantial stabilizer and topper.

They aren't finished well, but I expected towels along the quality of "bar mops." These fall far short of that category. These go in my single-use bag. Pet boo-boos, etc. Like inferior paper towels.
This second pack of 12 is going to be pressed into service in the powder room. Same thing as above (frequent handwashing amongst four people...need to hold down the germs...I don't like using handtowels that other people have been wiping their germs on all day...).
When you receive them, you'll notice the microfiber sticks to rough hands (mine are dry from all of that handwashing...). Give them a wash and you'll notice that will be reduced and/or go away completely.
Seller is prompt and courteous.
