Royal Player by Katie McCoy is a sweet, sexy, and hilarious stand-alone that will have you on your toes and falling in love throughout the entire book!
Emmy is in London for the summer and make some money working in the refreshment tent at Wimbledon with her best friend Paige, so once the tournament is over, she can go out and explore the city her mother loved so much. On her first job she royally screws up and is caught in the wrong place at the right time and meets Charlie Davenport. The prince of the tournament, and a literal prince. He coerces her into a good luck kiss, and a fun romance starts from there.
These two are opposites in every way, but together they work. Charlie is known as the bad boy of the royal family, and he can't be tamed, while Emmy is the good girl, who is just wanting to follow her dream, and make her father proud and keep her mothers memory alive. She's quiet where he's loud, he's stubborn where she's not, everything about them doesn't make sense, but they just click. Emmy didn't come to London to find romance, but Charlie wants her for some unknown reason, and I'm so happy she took a chance on him.
Watching Charlie open up to Emmy and let her in was beautiful. She got him, and helped him see what really mattered. I don't necessarily think that Emmy tamed Charlie, but allowed him to be himself without judgement, and without him having to prove himself, he was able to not be the bad boy everyone thought he was. I loved how he was with her and how protective he was with her through most of this book. How he stood up to his brother and everyone else around him regarding her and how he pushed her to follow her dreams as well. He wanted to impress her, but when he realized she wasn't impressed with his money or title he took her to see other parts of London that he loved. I adored this about Charlie!
Emmy really bloomed as a character in this book as well. When we first met her she was quiet and shy, but as her and Charlie's relationship grew, she grew more sure of herself and what she wanted out of her life. She wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted, and to tell her dad her dreams, which I loved. When things went down between these two, my heart broke for her, but I loved how she stood up to him in the end instead of just allowing him back in with open arms. How she knew Hugh didn't accept her, but she didn't care, she tried to make him see how much Charlie needed him, no matter what others thought of her, she really didn't care, Emmy had a heart of gold and I loved her for this.
Charlie and Emmy's story was beautiful and full of laughs, love, and some definitely HOT moments. I couldn't put this book down if I wanted too, I just wish it would have lasted a bit longer! I wanted more of a HEA for them, but I can just dream of how it ended for them! If you're looking for a romance that will have you falling in love, swooning, and laughing, as well as a group of secondary characters that you will adore as well, then definitely pick up Royal Player by Katie McCoy today!
The second half picked up and the ending, while predictable, was closer to her normal style. I look forward to her next book.
The chemistry between Charlie and Emmy is intense and undeniable. I love how Emmy takes the risk with the playboy prince because she sees the man behind the public image. Charlie, for his part, does everything he can to prove to Emmy that he's worth the media trouble. I adore how they strive to bring the best out of each other, Emmy pushes Charlie to succeed in tennis and Charlie pushing Emmy to go after her dream in fashion.
And boy does Katie bring the sexiness with these two. It's hot, provocative, naughty, and just a bit dirty. Wow, Charlie certainly has game on and off the court.
I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I loved everything about Royal Player. It enchants the reader from start to fishing with it's witty banter, flirty looks, and off the chart seduction. If you are looking for a RomCom with heart and soul, then I highly recommend Royal Player.
The accidental meeting between them was laugh out loud funny. The scenes of them together were both touching and HOT.
This one was so good I read it twice and laughed and sighed both times. I also went looking for more by Katie McCoy. Try her , you won't be sorry!!
