Large area artist brush set- Three Chinese Hake brushes. These soft brushes are ideal for laying in large areas of water or watercolor. They can also be used as subtractive tools for absorbing excess me diameter or "picking up" watercolor or ink. Great for fast and loose painting styles washes and laying in background color! The soft natural hair is glued and then literally stitched right onto the wooden handle. Therefore these brushes are not meant to be left immersed in water me diameter for long periods of time.

Hairs are bundled before being clamped in the handle.
Very soft hairs.
Hairs are shorter than European brushes.
Some sort of soft, white wood for handle. No finish.
One piece wooden handle, slit to accept the bundle of brushes.
Handle is stitched to keep the bundle in place.
Holds a ton of water color/very thin acrylic paint, easily releases it.
Easily cleaned (I swish back-and-forth in a 5-gallon bucket of water).
A few hairs came loose on the 3", they are so fine though, I didn't notice them until later.
UPDATE: These are still in great shape after two semesters of pottery and I plan to continue using them. Quite pleased.
I liked the brushes as they are very soft and spread the encaustic was very well.
These brushes can stand the heat required to do encaustic painting and do not melt like synthetic brushes.
