For a debut Gina Sheldon hit it out of the park like a pro! When writing a book based on an actual event and publishing on the 1 year anniversary of that event is both challenging and beautiful. Though this book is a romance, it also circles around the Boston Marathon bombing in 2014. Gina Sheldon treated what that attack means to so many with care and reverence. Well done my friend, well done!

I have actually been awaiting this book for quiet some time! The moment I saw the cover, I read the synopsis and wanted to read it ASAP! I loved Luke and Alexa and their personalities. They acted like people I know in real life. They weren't over done so that the "realness" seemed unrealistic. Luke, Alexa, Addison, Danny, Jessica and Elle are great characters and I enjoyed all of them!

So what's this book about? Alexa is training to run in the Boston Marathon. While training her body takes a beating (let's face it, exercise is hard. Training is even harder!). Her trainer recommends Alexa to go to The Rub Down for sports massage. That's where Alexa meets Luke. Luke becomes Alexa's massage therapist, and soon lines blur for the both of them. Luke has a rule with his business partner Danny that they DO NOT date clients! So what are 2 people who connect together in more ways than one suppose to do? Read the book and find out! Be ready for conflict, both internal and external. Cause let's face it every book as a b!tc#, and Gina gives up a good one!

In my opinion the way this ends is that there is an opening for other supporting characters to get a story themselves! Keeping my fingers crossed!

This book definitely falls in the contemporary sweet romances. I bought the book because I had never read one that involved a massage therapist. After reading the blurb, it looked like something that I might enjoy. The sexual tension in the book worked, until the actual act. It fell short for me. There was so much build up to it, then it seemed to be over in a few paragraphs. My biggest issue is that nothing really happens in the book. There were no twists & turns, no real dramatic scenes. One of the things that I noticed though was that as the the book went on, Alexa's language seemed to get more crude and Luke got really cheesy (a lot). I'm all for language when it's needed, but it seemed like filler in this story. Sometimes instead of helping a story, it can hurt it. I believe that it all depends on the character. I didn't feel like Alexa was that type of character. The "f" word seemed to be thrown in at inappropriate times. If you're looking for a feel good, drama free story, then this is for you. I'm not counting this author out for me. I would read another book from her to see how she has grown. I realize that the first book is always a huge learning curve.

Sweet and touching story about Alexa struggling to overcome her fears of running the Boston marathon after the tragic events of last year. Luke is swoon worthy and is exactly what Alexa needs to be able to heal and move forward.

I liked this book because you don't have the instant love, jump in the sack type of book. Their friendship and feelings are built up over time and you can feel the struggles Alexa is having with the upcoming race and you can feel the sexual tension between her and Luke that eventually builds up into something beautiful. Everyone needs a Luke in their life!

Gina's debut novel really impressed me and you will feel a variety of emotions, happiness, sadness, and heartbreak. It's one I recommend and I look forward to reading more books by Gina!

This debut novel from the talented and lovely Gina Sheldon told a story about a topic that I had yet to read about. Sure, I remember the event, I remember the news and the horror but Ms. Sheldon let me in on the life of a survivor just trying to...survive. I loved reading about Alexa and Luke. I enjoyed the way Ms. Sheldon introduced us to these characters and brought them together through a healing touch and some smoking chemistry. If you're looking for a sexy, well written story that is set up against the bright and detailed background of Boston, than The Rub Down is the book for you.

I enjoyed every second. This story is light for the most part but brings in some realities of real life and moment in time that will never be forgotten.
The characters were sweet and strong and the like "do you like what you see was not it" lol.
I love how the relationship professed naturally and the anticipation built up.
Luke is sexy as sin and will make you swoon.
Great debut for this new author. Congrats

Loved that this book is about running! Alexa is training for the Boston Marathon the year after the bombing. It's a special occasion for the Boston residents, the bomb survivors, and the athletes who could not complete the course that year. Alexa was one of the athletes who was detained before completing the marathon when the bombing, so it was special to her.

Luke is the co-owner of The Rub Down, a spa that specializes in massages. Alexa's trainer, Jeff, recommended her to Luke, to help her in her muscle pains caused by the hard training. When they meet it was Bang! Instant liking and a lot if intrigue.

Luke and Danny, the other owner, have a policy of not dating their clients. So this constricts Luke in expressing his interest in Alexa, but on the other hand, the attraction is so great. It was very difficult to navigate the attraction while respecting the policies, and the author hit it.

The author did a great job of balancing Luke's and Alexa's attraction. I loved that she made Alexa as self assured, beautiful but not conceited, and very ladylike. Luke was all gentleman and passion. Loved their banter, loved Addison, Alexa's best friend. She was supportive but not intrusive like other best friends I're read in other books. The love interest progressed great like it happens with two well-balanced, mature individuals. There was no angst or insecurity or abandonement issues here and it was a blessed change.

Only things I didn't like was that sometimes the pace dragged a little and made the book read like a diary. The conflict appeared late in the book and was resolved too easy. The part I liked the best was the narrative of the actual marathon as Alexa ran it. I'm a runner of 10K races, with ambitions of running a 1/2 marathon and totally loved all the running references, very accurate and real. I read this is the author's first book, and I am very impressed. Great job!
