Luke is the co-owner of The Rub Down, a spa that specializes in massages. Alexa's trainer, Jeff, recommended her to Luke, to help her in her muscle pains caused by the hard training. When they meet it was Bang! Instant liking and a lot if intrigue.
Luke and Danny, the other owner, have a policy of not dating their clients. So this constricts Luke in expressing his interest in Alexa, but on the other hand, the attraction is so great. It was very difficult to navigate the attraction while respecting the policies, and the author hit it.
The author did a great job of balancing Luke's and Alexa's attraction. I loved that she made Alexa as self assured, beautiful but not conceited, and very ladylike. Luke was all gentleman and passion. Loved their banter, loved Addison, Alexa's best friend. She was supportive but not intrusive like other best friends I're read in other books. The love interest progressed great like it happens with two well-balanced, mature individuals. There was no angst or insecurity or abandonement issues here and it was a blessed change.
Only things I didn't like was that sometimes the pace dragged a little and made the book read like a diary. The conflict appeared late in the book and was resolved too easy. The part I liked the best was the narrative of the actual marathon as Alexa ran it. I'm a runner of 10K races, with ambitions of running a 1/2 marathon and totally loved all the running references, very accurate and real. I read this is the author's first book, and I am very impressed. Great job!
This debut novel by Gina Sheldon did not disappoint. I was drawn to the story by the synopsis alone. I loved the idea of a male massage therapist/spa owner. It was a refreshing change and having the Boston Marathon as the backstory drew me in further.
Luke and Alexa are a perfect match with great chemistry. Although initially Luke resists his attraction to Alexa since she is his client, the sparks fly and you can't help but root for them
I fell in love with Luke from the beginning. He is handsome, successful, professional and loyal. This is shown in so many ways by the author through his relationships with his friends, co-workers, sisters and eventually Alexa. He strives to always do the right thing. I honestly fell in love with Luke and applaud Sheldon for creating such a likable character.
Sheldon doesn't stop with Luke as I really liked Alexa too. She is also very attractive inside and out. The chemistry she has with Luke is felt through Sheldon's descriptive writing. I enjoyed Alexa and her roommate Addison's friendship and the humor they brought to the story.
The theme of the Boston Marathon and Alexa being a runner during the bombings a year prior added to the emotional aspect. Sheldon did an excellent job of tying in a real life tragic event in a way to honor all those involved. Alexa's struggles with memories as the race day approaches are real and honest.
And once these two hotties finally get together. Whew!! The chemistry intensifies and leaves no doubt these two are meant for one another.
There were several supporting characters that I would love to hear their stories as well. Please make this a series!!
In all, Gina Sheldon hits it out of the park and is now on my "must read" author lists!
