The Rubbermaid 1784122 filtration bottle filter refill 2 pack fits in the Rubbermaid filter fresh bottle. The filter takes the chlorine out of tap water on the way out of the bottle as you drink, so the water is always fresh and tastes great. The filter can be used up to 100 times before it needs to be replaced. The filter is ready to go out of the box. The on board dial on the filter helps you keep track of the amount of uses so you know when it is time to replace it. When it is time to put a replacement filter in, simply remove the bottle top, pull the old filter out and drop a new one into the top of the bottle. The ring around the top of the filter will rest snuggly into the neck of the bottle and filter the water as you drink it.

THAT MEANS THAT AFTER YOU USE THE FILTER THAT COMES WITH THIS BOTTLE, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET A REPLACEMENT FILTER THAT FITS THE BOTTLE EVER AGAIN.
Amazon graciously let me return the bottle even though I was a little outside of the return window, but the real villain here is Rubbermaid for not having the decency to at least continue producing filters for the many thousands of people who purchased their water bottles.
The NEW FILTER does NOT attach to the lid, is loose and in the way at filling, can FALL OUT and get lost or dirty at filling, and NOW LEAKS ALL OVER YOU when you squeeze it!
I actually liked being able to squeeze it, I shouldn't have to wait for it to fall into my mouth like a baby just to keep from getting soaked when it leaks from all around the rim because of the new filter design.
Why on earth would they do something so terrible and stupid? Did they want to cancel the product line by driving people away from it, only after swindling them out of money for some junk first?
This had been my FAVORITE filter water bottle since I purchased on one Nov. 13, 2011 from Amazon.com. At that time, and for many filter purchases following, the filters had a top like a bottle mouth that screwed into the lid and kept it secure and sure to be filtering your water. It was fantastic.
Some people had complained about the fact that you could never quite get the last quarter inch of water because it couldn't be made to go into the filter, but that was no big loss and not much that could be done about it. All in all, it WAS the BEST on the market. My Brita bottle was a train wreck of a bottle, I went through three of them- one was sent free from Brita because I complained about how ALL of their bottles leak all over you, but why would I want MORE useless junk? I don't know how anyone got one of those that didn't leak all over them.
The Rubbermaid FilterFresh bottle was perfect. Secure. Reliable. Easy to fill. BUT NOW IT'S TERRIBLE! The new filter design does not attach in any way. The screw top is gone. Now it does not stay secure to the bottle top when you go to fill and it gets in the way and can fall out. You don't wanna put a dropped filter back in your drinking water, do you? Ew. In addition it is no longer reliably filtering your water!! Since it moves around and no longer screws to the lid, it can't keep all the water going through the filter before you drink it, water will get around it. It now LEAKS from all around the rim if you squeeze it and GETS WATER ALL OVER YOU just like that worthless junk Brita was churning out. This is AN ABSOLUTE MESS and TOTALLY USELESS.
How on earth could they make such an obviously TERRIBLE change??? This is SO SAD. I loved this bottle, I would have kept getting the filters and if needed replaced the bottle for however long they were on the market, and I would have continued to recommend them to everyone, but now I must say that no one should ever get one, unless they go back to the OLD FILTER DESIGN THAT ACTUALLY WORKED. If they do not, then this bottle is entirely useless, an unreliable filter, a hassle to fill, and entirely too troublesome to be worth it. WHAT A MESS!!
-It does not leak. It does not leak while you drink from it, or when it is closed. Not even when you squeeze it and its closed.
-It is not hard to drink from, unless you are a child. A five year old might have trouble squeezing it to drink from it, but a five year old would also be satisfied by the amount that come out when it is not squeezed. No, you can't suck water out, but you knew this.
-All of the water gets filtered! I repeat, it all gets filtered! The holes around the edge of the filter? They are inconsequential. The top of the filter matches up with a tiny "rim" on the inside of the cap. That is why water doesn't pour out, it dribbles when it is tipped. It has to go through the filter. I don't think the one star reviewers understand basic design concepts. Their bottles may have leaked or had issues because they were using the 2nd gen filter with the 1st gen bottle. The "holes" on the sides let you fill the bottle without taking out the filter.
-The water tastes great. Make sure you follow the instructions and squeeze a full bottle through before you try and drink from it. My tap water tastes like nasty creek turned pool water. Its awful. This bottle makes it taste just like bottled water. Its amazing, really.
-The cap won't hit you in the face if you don't shove it up your nose. You can pull the loop to shorten the tether so it doesn't flop around. Once again, might be an issue if you are five.
If you are looking for a personal filter bottle, buy it. It's cheap. It does what it is supposed to. You can fit ice in it. I will update if I have any issues as described here. Until then, I will enjoy my tasty water.
