Oh, and by the way, you get the REAL scoop on Rudolph
I am enjoying the whole series and am actually up to the 5th (And final) book.
I like many of the characters but find myself a little lost about some of this. First teh book seems written towards young adults but then some of the themes seem a little off age for that. (some ideas are a little to simple others maybe a little too complex.) still you do get wrapped up in the characters!
I can appreciate the experiences of "Flea" the main character and I can also sympathize with him. This book does a great job of pointing out the perils of miscommunication or assuming too much.
The main problem I am having is more with the quality of the writing in the later books. in some of them there are misspellings and mixing up of character names which seems to get worse as you progress through the series.
My other issues are more personal to me like the way that the author seems to be making a whole new history for Christmas that interfered with my idea of the season. But that one IS a purely personal issue. Sometimes it is hard to "give up" a cherished ideal.
I also would have liked to see more personal growth on the part of Niko. (possible spoiler alert here!)
He is supposed to be one of the most important elves at the North Pole but he starts out assuming the worst and even when he has had the experience of seeing the reality of things he still stubbornly clings to what he thinks and refuses to see what is right in front of him. I would expect more of someone in such a position. Still, I suppose, that is the way people usually are so maybe I expect too much out of my fictional characters.
Unfortunately I would probably give books later in the series a lower grade but over all this is a good series that starts well and you will want to follow the whole series just so you can find out what REALLY happens.
I really liked how Flea was fitting in. He took part in some snow games and against many different people that's at the North Pole. Think of it as the Triwizard Torment from the Potter books. After this is done, Flea learns of an attack at from Jack Frost, but soon Flea learns that everything isn't as it seems. I really like that the character of Flea is growing and developing.
I can't enough good things about this book series. If you have a child that doesn't like to read, then I highly suggest you introduce them to this series they'll be hooked.
