First, flat collars made our fuzzy girl's neck hair stand oddly. As others have said, the Knot-a-Collar settles nicely into her fur and doesn't make her look weird. Second, the fact that it has a metal plate for her tags and then a separate one in the back for her leash clip is sheer brilliance. Third, it just looks cool!
It is a bit difficult to put on and adjust at first, especially on a dog with a longer coat. You have to open it up wide, slip it over the head, and then go about adjusting each knot until the collar is the correct size and the knots roughly equidistant from the metal plate (if you care about such things). The knots are pretty tight and can be hard to move, but I see this as a good thing.
If your dog is a strong puller and you plan on clipping his/her leash only to a collar, I would strongly urge you to consider another product. Although the knots are tight, I can definitely see the collar loosening under such pressure. Then again, if your dog is a puller you should really consider a head or Easy-Walk harness (along with some training).
One last thing. Our dog has a weird issue with her getting skittish when her tags jingle on the side of her food bowl. On several occasions she has managed to catch the tags on the lip of the bowl, freak out, and jump back so quickly that she has dumped her food and water. With the Knot-a-Collar, however, the tags are held higher, and the rubber tag bumper means they don't jingle on her bowl. So far, no dumped food or freaked out fuzzy!
Soon after we started dog training, the trainers recommended a prong collar when we walked, being a BC she is extremely high energy. This collar did not interfere with the prong collar at all. It easily goes on in front of her Ruffwear collar.
I wanted something that wouldn't put much weight against her fur, even bands I set to looser settings seemed to make her itch. That skin and fur wasn't getting a lot of air and wasn't able to shed as freely.
I intentionally keep this on a looser setting but it is really easy to adjust; I will fit it more before a walk. I bought the large for my 40lb. dog and it fits her on loose, it has room to get smaller. She's a shar pei mix so she does have extra skin around her neck.
The reflective threads are great, they haven't started peeling or splitting.
I really like the metal loop at the back, it easily fits a carabiner I use to keep her leash on (it's an older leash which once or twice decides to let go, not a Ruffwear leash).
As a side note I was commenting on my best friends dog leash. Her husband rock climbs and it's made from old climbing rope and a carabiner for her Belgian Malanwa. I told her it reminded me of the new collar I just bought, and she said, "Ruffwear? I have one too". True story, I saw it in the mudroom later, same size and color as mine. Great dog mamas think alike!

Great collar! It fits my 60 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback perfectly. I like how it's not thick and bulky like some collars out there. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Mitt
This is working very well. We changed my dog's collar after he was attacked by an aggressive dog who got out of his yard. Read morePublished 4 months ago by MarriedWChildren
Seems to fit really comfortably on my dog, and it's easy to slip off and on. I also love the look of it as we are a family of rock climbers.Published 6 months ago by Leslie
I have a 95lb Rhodesian. The knots have a tendency to slide; it's the friction around the front metal adapter that actually keeps its sizing more or less in check. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Daegond
