How it works:
You put your phone or ipod in the case. Inside the case is a headphone jack that you put into the headphone jack of you device. Close the case and lock it with the side clips. Then use the headphone jack on top of the Case to connect your favorite headphones or the ones included with the case. There is a volume control knob on top of the case that you use to control the volume without having to open the case back up. There is also a setting inside for the type of device you are using that must be set correctly in order for the volume control button to function properly.
The case is a bit bulky and it does not have controls that enable you to controll the functions of the device inside, other than the volume control. However, I do not have to worry about losing my device, damage due to moisture, damage due to dropping it, damage due to dirt and other particles in the yard. If you want to make sure your device is protected while you are mowing the grass, weed-eating, or digging in the yard; this is a great device to have. If you want a protective case with external speakers review the "Grace Digital Eco Extreme 3.5mm Aux Waterproof Portable Speaker Case". If you want exteranl speakers and the ability to control the functions of your device I would look at the "Grace Digital GDI-AQ2SI60 ECOXGEAR Rugged and Waterproof Stereo Boombox". Check the prices on the items that come in different colors. The price can be higher on specific colors and much lower on some of the other color choices.
Minus 1 star for versatility:
Lets say you are riding along and you need to open the eco pod, or you are on a dock getting ready to climb on your boat and you go to put it in the case and oops it slides off and into the water. The phone/device cannot be set down INTO the eco pod. It is held by an elastic band which affects the screen and or buttons. The item rests up off the bottom of the case so that the earphones have a storage space. Good thought, but now I cannot open it up while riding my bike because the phone will fall onto the road. This case works well with a blue tooth stereo headset using commands. For a $60 dollars more there is a better system out there with a soft top for functionality but also has solid waterproof construction. The eco pod bike mount sucks! I would stay clear of a zipper or neoprene case as well.
West marine has a cellphone bag with headphone Jack that clips around a rail etc and will save you the money. If you need something for a boat. You cannot open this up on a boat while attached to the railing with the optional rail/bike mount or the phone could slide out. Get this if you want headphones I guess and want to sit on a beach.
It does have a couple of great features. The built-in 3.5mm jack works great and is much better than bluetooth when it comes to sound quality. Secondly, the built-in volume knob exceeded my expectations. The knob controls volume independently from your device so you can put your device volume at a comfortable level and adjust the sound on the case without changing the volume level on the device.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that was looking for a water-proof phone case. However, if you are planning on using it in warm to hot conditions a sleeve or dry bag might work better.
