I kinda feel a bit hook-winked out of money on this one. It's only 3 markers on my Kindle for length, and the actual story only took up 2 of those. The story ended at 65%. The rest was excerpts. So this didn't really feel like 50 pages at all. When the last scene ended, I thought -- wait, that can't be it? I also didn't find the sex very hot for the build-up. I think this was a waste of good characters and I felt a bit cheated on content. If you haven't read the books in the series, I don't think this works very well; it's not a stand-alone. And even having read the others, I still don't really feel as if I knew these characters at all. I was disappointed since I loved the books in this series.

A very fun short read about two characters introduced in A Fashionable Indulgence, Gabriel Ashleigh and Francis Webster. While it doesn't delve into the issues AFI does, it gives the back story of Gabriel and Francis, which is nice to have. It's not necessary to have read AFI-- it helps some, but I think reading this first would add insight when reading AFI.

I love the attention paid to detail about Regency period--the men were _all_ about fashion, and KJ Charles knows what she's talking about. Some might think that there's too much detail, but that's really what the period was about--an excess on behalf of the gentry that exacerbated the divide between the landed gentlemen and the working class (hm, sound familiar?). The detail is all important, because that's what they lived and breathed. Cuts to one's wardrobe were taken seriously. It's like Mean Girls, only it's Mean Guys. And I think it's fascinating that the men were just as obsessed about their clothes as women were always portrayed to be. It's a wonderful insight, and very artfully done. A Fashionable Indulgence shows this in greater depth, so if you've tried this first, and liked it, you'll love AFI!

The Society of Gentlemen .5

(m/m) Gabriel Ashleigh lost everything to the man his brother humiliated in school, Francis Webster. His only choices now are to commit suicide (not on Ash's list) or flee to the Continent or allow his father to get what he always wanted, Ash in the military and far out of sight. Then Ash is contacted by Webster for a chance to win everything back against his body.

A very short tale that gives us how dear Ash met his lover Francis. This gives us a deeper look into Francis, beyond the cold demeanor he shows to the world. 4 out of 5.

I hadn't read the other three books in this series and still was able to keep up with the 'goings on' of the two MCs. This was a short and sexy book of the late victorian era about m/m desires. Gabriel is the youngest of a rich and powerful family and Francis is a gentleman who came up the ranks with the deal of his cards. Lusting after Gabriel or 'Ash,' he is able to manipulate the financial downfall of Gabriel and things progress from there. Good short read and felt good to read in an era i used to read all the time.

Well….this was a hot little ditty I found after I read book one of the series.

Quick and scorching.

This was a little too easily resolved when I think there was lots and lots to work through in this enemies to lovers story.

But, as a prequel to the series it hooked. These characters were sort of an enigma on the sidelines in book one so it was good to get some backstory. I’d like to see these guys some more in detail—fingers crossed.

This is just so good! A brilliant little story introducing the world of Society of Gentlemen. And it features the sexiest game of cards ever!
Francis is something special, but Ash, oh Ash is everything I love in a romance hero - a little lost, a little insecure, a lot of reckless and determined!

Fabulous story that grabs you and pulls you in by one of my favorite authors. Very sexy. Loved how the author created so much back story in a brief story. Loved the characters and the universe of the Ricardians. Only con is that I wanted so much more of their story. I'm hoping that the author will continue the story.

The old style language took some getting used to but it was fitting for the book so all good. I could have wanted a bit more of the story but it was a good tease to read the trilogy suggested. No cliffhanger per say but I at least wanted more and will get the other books too.
