This book is filled with mystery, some horror, deceit, lies and yet there is love also. The main characters are Killian, also known as Kill and Cleo, or Sarah as she was a victim of amnesia when the book starts out. They grew up together in the MC Club run by Cleo's father, and vice president Killian's father who is a vicious man, and he does the ultimate thing that ruined his family's life, and that of several other people as well.
Cleo and Killian grew up together in the club compound, Kill was 4 years older than Cleo, and by the time Cleo was 13, she knew that she wanted to be with Kill forever, and as much as he wanted her in the same way, he was determined they wait until he was older and she was older as well. He was always protective of her. It all ended in one night and they did not see each other for 8 years.
This story is about them and what happens and how circumstances tore them apart and terrible things happen to them both, Cleo loses her memory and is burnt over half her body and she escapes a fire that was set in her home and killed her mom and dad. However she does not remember that and is taken to England to finish growing up and becomes a vet. She does not remember anything. One day she receives a letter about who she is and instead of letting anyone know she goes back and is kidnapped. Then the memories start coming back. When she remembers everything will she still love the man the boy she loved became?
Killian becomes Kill after he is sent to prison for life for the murder of 3 people his father should be held accountable for. He is convicted at the age of 18, and he thinks his Cleo is dead. He has no idea she has survived and for 4 years while he sat in prison he suffered. However he met someone that took over his life and got him paroled in 4 years and set him up as the new president of his motorcycle club. He knows that it is complete chaos and so he wants Kill to take over and he promises he will see Kill gets his revenge, as long as he changes the motorcycle club to a new club that will run correctly. Promises are made and they both keep up their end of the deal. Then Cleo is brought to the club as a girl that is to be sold into sexual slavery! He can't believe his eyes. Read this book, I can't reveal anymore!
I loved the angst in this book- the passion, the pure hatred, the terrible things that happen, and where it all ends up. I also love when Kill finally realizes his girl is back. Then she strts to remember and he is afraid when she does remember, she will hate him. Read part two of this series and you will get your answers! Just like me!
I gave this book 5***** shocking stars and have to say Pepper has done it again written an epic book!
Ruin and Rule is the story of a love lost and found in a cruel world. Our female lead has no memory of her life, but her captor feels familiar. As pieces of her memory begin to return, she knows why. Our male lead can't bring himself to recognize his captive as his past love. Can she make him see the real her before it's too late?
What Did I Think?
I shall get straight to the point on this one.
1) The book was too slow. It was a struggle to care about finishing it. There was just way too much story line angst for my liking. The whole 'Please believe me! No. Please. No. Please. No.' got old real quick.
2) I've never read of a fictional MC club as lame as this one. The president is a mathematical genius billionaire. (Yes friends, you read that right.) Funny thing is, Mr. Genius Billionaire can't figure out how to keep his high security house secure. Now, with a club full of supposed brothers and an enemy lurking about, you'd think he'd manage to secure his property, right? Moving on.. The MC doesn't partake in illegal activities, except of course this one instance in the book. Le Sigh.. And finally, we have them wearing leather jackets. The club is based in the Florida Keys. Just about the only leather you want to be wearing in south Florida is a thin strap of it on your thong sandals.
3) I thought for a few minutes about what word I would use to describe my next issue. And I'm satisfied with my choice. It's creepy. The love scenes from the middle to the end of this book are creepy. I'm a straight forward type of gal, so when I mean creepy, I mean causing an unpleasant feeling of unease. This book constantly shifts between the past and present. Love scenes in the past find our female lead between 12 and 14 years of age with mentions as early as 8 years of age. This took me out of the scenes immediately. I can't read a scene on a sandy beach with talk of wet from a 13 year old. I mean WTF? No, literally WTF? She claims not to wear underwear around him because it just ends up wet. What?! I have a niece around that age. She rides bikes, braids hair, and plays video games. I'm thinking it's likely she doesn't parade around school with no undies because some boy makes her wet. Look, freshman year in high school isn't until 15 years of age, so we're talking middle and junior high age here. Are you serious with this? No. This is just, sigh, no..
4) It ends in a s*** cliffhanger and I have issues with books that bore me only to end unfinished. Can we say disappointing? Mhrm.
I found this to have a somewhat favorable book formula (MC romance + Pepper Winters), so I went into this one blind. But I'll be honest, had I known the story revolved around an amnesia plot, I most likely would have passed on it. It would have saved me from the whole odd preteen love thing. I would have been thankful for that. Anyway, I have yet to decide if I shall read the next book. It's a matter of having a few hours already vested in the story or cutting my loses at a few hours wasted. Know what I mean? Sigh.
