I do not read a lot of "dark" romances but there a few out there that are actually ok. This one, however, is not. The main problem with this story is that Kill knew Cleo/Sarah from the time she was 4 and he was 7. He fell in love with her when she was 14. He became completely devoted to her. Their souls were connected. If one died, so did the other. Then the tragedies occur. He thought she died, so he died as well - he lost all sense of self, conscience, peace, morality etc. When he meets her again, his soul recognizes her. But, because he is so steeped in darkness at this point, he refuses to admit who she is. He refuses to even look into the situation - to see how she came to be at his club etc. He is an extremely high IQ character - genius level is how he is described. Yet he never bothers to find out the truth. He doesn't ask questions or seek answers. He simply yells and screams, issues orders, punishes her, beats her when she pushes him to admit who she is, and then attempts to sell her into sex slavery to a monster.
The thing that stops him from doing this is a little symbol that all of us are very familiar with that represents "I love you". Really? He sees this little symbol and that stops him from being a complete and total evil human being? NONE of the other things that should have clued him in clear it up for him? Just this little symbol that is so overused, there is nothing at all special about it in the year 2016? Are we teenagers now? I thought we were adults reading an adult romance.
Then, after coming back to his sanity, Kill is all I love you and I don't want you to hate me so what am I going to do? I have to get my vengeance but I can't explain anything that happened and I know you don't understand because you still have amnesia about most of your past, but just be patient with me and don't hate me and let's have sex. Oh and someone has broken into my house but don't worry about it, let's just go have sex and you'll be safe because you are with me.
And of course, Cleo/Sarah is all I love you and everything is ok. Just tell me what your plans are and what really happened because I can't
remember and let's have sex because you are so hot and I know you are my soul mate and it doesn't matter all the terrible crap that was done to me because I love you and let's have sex.
And then the people who broke into the house come back and kidnap her. Yep. And by the way, the bad MC club that is so evil that caused all the tragedy in the beginning and is going to bear the brunt of Kill's vengeance is named - wait for it....Dagger Rose.
And last but certainly not least - this is a 'cliffhanger' if you want to call it that because I certainly wasn't hanging on every word. However, there is a second book! So if you really want to know what happened, you have to waste some more money and precious time.
I would prefer a lobotomy.
petrol v gas
trousers v jeans
we don’t have handbrakes on cars unless is a standard
singlet v vest
a US biker would never, no matter how genius, use the word gobsmacked😖
posh v snob
I could go on....
These books are an escape from the daily grind. Running into the british phrases just lurches me out of the story and back to the fact that I am reading. So distracting! The story is a good one, though. I just expected a higher professional
standard from a best selling author.
Cleo/Sarah: 22 years old, she stayed true to herself even when she couldn't remember herself!
Arthur "Kill" Killian: 25 years old, the genius mathematician
"Pain came in many forms. Loneliness. Betrayal. Sacrifice. But I'd found love to be the most painful of all."
"I want what you guys have. To have a connection that never fades-even after so many years apart. I want honesty and the knowledge that I'm not alone in the world."
I loved the characters, and how even though they have no idea who each other is when they see each other for the first time after 8 years they instantly are drawn to each other. Struggling with amnesia for the 2nd time Cleo struggles to remember anything from the past but as bits and piece come back to her she never stops fighting for Art. It is because of her strong convictions that Art is finally able to open his eyes and see what is staring him.
This book ends in a cliffhanger.
Ok I have had this book on my kindle for awhile and been waiting for a break to get a chance to read it because I have heard so many good things. Dang this book is good.
This isn’t your typical MC book. This is crazy and full of secrets and lost memories. But know one thing.. love always finds a way.
I think Kill is super sexy and just freaking wonderful. I will say the first half of the book I wanted to choke the living crap out of him but I have since changed my mind. I think this whole story has you rooting for the past. Trying to figure out all secrets.
This book is a definite mind screw but in a good way. The end through me for a loop... ahhh... what is to come?!?!!!
Pepper is a phenomenal author, I am a huge fan and this is just another one of her books I will never forget. The writing seems effortless and it flows seamlessly. She has a way of painting you this picture that you never let go. I dreamt about this book. This book was life. This is a MUST read!!
I’m on to book 2 right now....

The author also messes up the time lines and Kill's age in the book. It's stated repeatedly that the fire happened 8 years before, when Kill was 17, on Cleo's 14th birthday. That would make him 25 now!!! Yet Kill says he took over the MC 4 years ago when he was 24, which would make him 28! He can't be 25 & 28 author! It happens again when Grasshoppers says Kill lost his virginity the day he got out of prison when he was 24 and Kill says that he got his tattoo the day he got out of prison when he was 24. But Kill states that he was sent to prison at 17, and served 4 years & 6 months. That would mean he was 21 when he got out of prison, not 24! Even if you round his age up to 18, and add 4 years 6 months, that makes him 22 when he got out, not 24. These are big discrepancies about his age repeated several times throughout the book!
I got really bored again in the last 90% when it repeated the book in Kill's pov. And what the heck happened when he got stabbed. One minute he's growling in anger, then he's stabbed. But he, nor the guys Hopper or Mo beside him, saw anything. How did he get stabbed, it's never described! Seriously! You need to get close to someone to stab them but it was just ignored! Badly written!
I'm a sucker for a biker story and because this had so many good reviews and was only 0.99p, I thought why not try it. But this really irritated me to be honest. It needs a good chop to rid it of the repetitive stuff and too many silly analogies used. It's over 400 pages of mostly internal monologues and remembered memories. A lot of the text here could definitely be cut without impacting the heart of The book. So both books could have been written as only 1 book! And that gets me started on the fact that this unnecessarily left off on a cliffhanger! Because it definitely should have been cut down to make it less boring. I haven't read the second book, I do hate leaving stories unfinished and despite having already spent hours of my time dragging myself through these 400 pages of often boring and annoying text, I just don't think I can be bothered to read the next book to finish the story! I prefer quality over quantity. Even though this was over 400 pages for only 0.99p, I'd rather pay £3.99 for only 200 pages of a much better and more exciting story than this!
Both 'forgetful girl' and 'kill' are amazing characters with depth . Kill is flawed and complexed yet so passionate and raw that you can feel the emotions pouring off with just mere words.
With out giving too much away , our heroine suffers from amnesia and a chance encounter with Kill gets the ball rolling on events and memories that open flood gates . She feels a connection with Kill that he refuses to acknowledge as well as his refusal to divulge any secrets . And the whole book is simply magic - flashbacks into her mind as well as cryptic words uttered by Kill that give a glimpse into the past . It's raw and edgy and there were moments where my heart in my throat(especially the Yatch scene) . It's gripping and it's romance , mystery and a bit of psychological thriller all rolled into one .
Loved it !
I just don't know how she does it but she really truly writes some amazing stuff , I on the other hand I'm not a writer so may not be able to truly to her justice in my review but really from the beginning I was hooked . Like a drug the book was read within 24 hours I was like a whirlwind of emotions .
From the start I knew there was a dark story and the romance will be just as good as all the dark things , I'll try not to give an part of story line away but I was amazed again at how well she wrote these two charterers and all the ordeals they faced the demons that stayed with then and the flashbacks were so surreal it was scary at points!
I had the hairs at the back of my neck stand when I read the book it was in my lounge after midnight and just the perfect mix for reading a book like this!
Can't fault any part of the book apart from I have to wait for the next one lol .
If your looking for a quality piece this is for you !
It was written well , edited well and most of all really ticked all my boxes for a book almost like Pepper writes for me personally she writes things i didn't use to read before because it was not done well but she really had made me face some demons of my own through her writing of such topics that are not usually what authors explore .
Well Deserved 5stars
It kept me totally engrossed and I can't believe that the 2nd installment isn't out until January 2016.
It's a meaty well written and fast paced story of lost love, betrayal and murder. What's not to love!! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a fab read.
