Hmm, guess my review will probably be the only negative amongst the glowing ones but here goes. It ain't gonna be pretty so you were warned ;)
Obviously, going by the previous books, I didn't expect Hugo's story to be an earth-shattering epic love story. I didn't exactly expect to see him completely reformed but good god-- to dedicate nearly the entire book about his nonstop raunchy orgies, with OTHER women--yea my interest wore off quick. Hugo turned me off in a BIG way. Nothing sexy about a guy that will literally kiss you with a mouth that has been elsewhere...just minutes ago. And you know where. Way down yonder south. I also really can't recall a hero who made me want to vomit as much as he did. And a heroine who quite frankly will keep going back for more even if he screws someone right in front of her. Which he did. Repeatedly. It's very disappointing to see a heroine set herself up for that kind of heartache and treatment, even in the name of love . I've read cheating books where I still believe more in their HEA than these two.
In Theo's & Lilly's book, we get glimpses of his and Molly relationship as casual, "friends who hooks up every now and then". Molly acts as if she's okay with the arrangement of being his booty call. No big change here. It repulses me when he sleeps with Molly and other countless women in between. He would go to her, to another chick and her and someone else. It's sad to watch. You want to punch him and shake some sense into her. Fine, they were not "exclusive". He was the unattainable stud, the playboy--the one every woman wants to shag....yada yada. I get it.Read more ›
Molly is a good girl, a good friend and a romantic. She was burned by Hugo in the past but when she needed him most, he was there for her. She sees beyond his facade, "Under all his womanising bulls***, he's actually a good guy. We become the most unlikely of friends." Although they have developed a friendship, they are still attracted to one another and have a deep down connection they struggle to avoid.
Hugo struggles with his self worth. He thinks of himself as a bad boy and not good enough for Molly. He uses sex as an emotional outlet. Hugo's lack of commitment pushes Molly into the arm of Alex, her security blanket.
Molly struggles with her feelings for two men."Alex is lovely, and I adore him. He's like a warm fire on a cold night, but he will never be the wild flame that is Hugo. He'll also never burn me. There's always a trade-off." Molly has to make a difficult decision, to follow her heart or settle for the safe bet. In the end Molly discovers "Love is war. She who dares...wins."
'Ruined' is funny, steamy, heart-wrenching, and delivers. This story had me annoyed, angry, laughing, and cheering for a HEA. Molly is a fighter, she follows her heart but knows when to walk away. Hugo is a real manwhore. He has issues that he avoids by having sex with half of London. Although they are an unlikely couple, the heart knows what it wants.
Ruined is a spin off from the She Who Dares trilogy and is about Hugo, Theo's best friend and Molly, Lilly's best friend. This book can be read as a stand alone and there is no need to read the others but i would highly recommend the She Who Dares trilogy because they're amazing.
I'll start off by saying this is one of the funniest books i have read in a long time! Where She who Dares is quite dark Ruined is mostly the opposite. Hugo provided the laughs in the previous books so i had a feeling this one would be good, but christ have i laughed through this and the back and forth banter between Hugo and Molly is funny as hell!
Hugo is a manwhore and is quite content spending his life sleeping with any woman in his path and drinking himself into a stupor. He loves his life and has no desire to change it. Molly is a romantic at heart and has gone through lot's of boyfriends because she refuses to waste time on those she knows is not the one.
This story builds really well into a friendship first and neither of them see what's coming because they're too busy flirting, keeping things lighthearted and pushing anything else out the way. Hugo carries on being Hugo in other words a slut, albeit a sexy hot one phewwwww no one does it like him!!! and Molly sits back and accepts him for what he is while trying to find her future with the "perfect man". In their quest to stop the sexual chemistry they become the best of friends.
I won't give spoilers but this story for me was perfect for the characters including the ending. Which made me gasp, had me WTFing and then peeing myself laughing! I started this book quite late at night and i stayed up till 2am.Read more ›
