Publisher's Description: Eleanor Wrotham has sworn off overbearing men, but she needs a man’s help—and the man who steps forward is as domineering as he is dangerous: the notorious Mordecai Black. The illegitimate son of an earl, Mordecai is infamous for his skill with women. His affairs are legendary—but few people realize that Mordecai has rules, and one of them is: Never ruin a woman. But if Mordecai helps Miss Wrotham, she will be ruined.
I have read other books in this series but to me this was the best one yet. The characters are memorable and the storyline well thought out and developed. Mordecai and Eleanor's story, book #5 of this series is an unforgettable mixture of mystery, love, magic and the heroine's ability to trust the actions of an overbearing hero. Although part of a continuing series this book reads well as a standalone. There are a couple of repeat characters but knowing their story is not an essential element to the enjoyment of this book. I gave this book 4.5 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4 of 5 flames. It is not necessary to read the other titles in this series to enjoy this read. I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the author/publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Spoiler alert: if you like tightly written novels with engaging characters , this is one of the authors to choose. She had me so engaged I couldn't help reading chapter after chapter , even though my head was nodding and my eyes began to burn. I resented the need for sleep. In this addition to the Baleful Godmother series , Mordechai and Nell's story held me captivated to the end. Speaking of, there was an excerpt included at the end for My Lady Thief that was so enticing , I bought it then & there. Thankfully , Amazon is awake at all hours ! I heartily recommend both!
This is my first book to read from Emily Larkin. One word. YES! There is nothing so exciting as in finding a new author for a seasoned and avid HR reader such as myself. "Ruining Miss Wrotham" was such a lovely surprise read for me. I loved Mordecai. I mean, who couldn't? He pursued her with such loving patience. Miss Wrotham was just the kind of heroine I can appreciate, no simpering Miss. The dialogue was smart and fluid. The magic was interwoven with just the right touch. I cannot wait to read more of The Baleful Godmother series.
I cried as I read the last few pages because I was so happy. My admiration for Ms Larkin just keeps growing with each of her books I read. And, for the first time in a long time I'm considering going back and doing some rereading - she's that good. Mordecai and Elinor are wonderful characters and Mordecai especially is a man almost any woman could love. How their relationship grows is the focus of the book and you want so badly for them to make the connection they seem destined for.
I enjoy romances in which the Hero and heroine are people I would want to meet. Both of these characters are honorable, brave and wanting to do the right thing. This doesn't mean they are dull! The only fault was the way in which characters from the previous books conveniently came into this story.
I would happily read Emily Larkin every day! Mordecai Black would be my choice for a ruinous rake! Nell Wrotham is so contrary and stupidly rebellious, that she must be seduced for her own good! On to the next adventure!!
