Well after a season of hunting this set works perfect. First the set looks nice and the wood handles are nice looking. The set is super sharp new. After a season of dressing 4 deer all I can Say is they work. I used both knives and they are the perfect size as well as hold their edge.
For Christmas I received a $500 Randall custom knife as a gift. I was out hunting and needed my knives. Guess which i chose? The ruko set. Ill leave it at that.
Un beleivable value!
The folding knife was pretty sharp with the exception of about half an inch around the curve of the blade.
The wooden handles are sturdy & look nice, but one of the decorative metal insets was crooked (minor detail). I thought the handle on the skinner was too thin at first but after using it, found that it fits the hand comfortably (both skinning & gutting) & isn't bulky or in the way when its at your hip.
The sheath is heavy-duty nylon that should last a long time if not mistreated & it holds the skinning knife firmly as long as the folding knife is in its place.
For the price, its a nice set & would've gotten 5 stars if not for the less than razor sharp edge on the folding knife.
The knifes are great. I think they could come sharper but I did not care as I put a master edge on it using my Apex sharpner from EdgePro. I purchased this set to have for hunting, cutting mainly skin and meat. Once in a while, I need to cut a rope or something light. For this use, it's perfect! Did not have the chance to test the steel quality by cutting something more distructive to knifes. Now to what i see some complaints about..the pocket knife not locking: In my OPINION, you may be using it wrong in conjunction with the knife not being lubricated. Take a drop of olive oil and lube it up so it opens easier. To open, slightly push the edge open with your thumb and "SWING" it open (don't fully open with thumb). The reason for this is that the locking mechanism is filed at an edge. If not opened with a swing, it may not lock properly, ESPECIALLY when the knife is brand new. If you swing it open and it makes that click sound, it's locked in solid. Now, what's the benefit of this? Over the years, when that mechanism wears out, that angled edge on the mechanism will ALWAYS keep the blade locked solid. If it was not at an angle, the blade would start moving when locked as more wear occurs. Hope this helps!
Update: I used the fixed blade knife to perform a field dressing last season and the knife did great. I was able to test the steel somewhat as I had to cut through some hard cartilage/bone. The sharp edge I put on it after the purchase stayed after the dressing!
