What is a retrograde?

A retrograde calculates, night and day, how to return the world to:
the Old Order of moral and sexual decency,
classical masculinity,
national sovereignty and national borders,
faith and hope and charity,
goodness and beauty and truth,
Christian civic liberty,
and most importantly, the social kingship of Christ.

In the words of Shakespeare, a retrograde is one of God’s spies.

The retrograde has the unique capacity for understanding the stark chasm between the degenerate, socialist-infiltrated world of decay on one side and the well-meaning, good-hearted, but clueless Christian world on the other.

In a time of such profound decay, being one of God’s spies is a last resort and a pure necessity: it involves not “deep cover,”—i.e., acting like the enemy—but rather “half cover”: acting as a “contra” in the secular arena, a crypto-Christian counterinsurgent willing to fight like a Navy Seal and to think like a counterintel officer.

Retrogrades . . . to the streets: our aim is to reverse the deliberate, deuced machinations of “radicals” like Saul Alinsky who, by penning the rulebook of radicalism, threw down a challenge that has, until now, gone unanswered. About the Author

Timothy J. Gordon studied philosophy in Pontifical graduate universities in Europe, taught it at Southern Californian community colleges, and then went on to law school. He holds degrees in literature, history, philosophy, and law. Currently, he resides in central California with his wife and five children, where he writes and teaches philosophy and theology. He is the author of Catholic Republic: Why America Will Perish without Rome (Sophia Institute Press, 2019).

David Gordon is an attorney, former judicial law clerk, graduate of Franciscan University’s M.A. Theology program, husband, and father of five. He has long endeavored, through work in Catholic apologetics and parish ministry, to restore the health of the Church and to bring about a revival of Christendom in the secularized West. Mr. Gordon currently resides with his family in California’s Great Central Valley.

Fantastic book. Cannot say enough good things about the writing of the Gordon brothers. Unlike most list books, this one managed to not drag on while still elaborating on each point enough to be useful. "Useful" is certainly true of this book, but that doesn't do it justice. It's useful in the same way that knowing the rules of chess would be useful in attempting to play it. Indispensable is better. It provides an applicable set of strategies to win debates, souls, or both--depending on the conversation. More than that, the style in which it is written is inspiring, but not the fades-thirty-seconds-after-the-epic-music-cuts-out kind. They attack a problem threatening our world and way of life, and they show the necessity or working to take back the culture while at the same time informing all readers precisely how to do it. These two things are rarely found together, but the Gordons manage it masterfully. A must-read for all wishing to do something. You can do something or you can do nothing, and I'm done doing nothing. Are you?

Thank you so much for this book. This is one that needs to be spread far and wide, as I think there are many potential retrogrades out there who need to read it. We've had so much garbage and social conditioning fed to us for so many years it is refreshing to be empowered to say NO, we are not accepting this politically correct claptrap anymore! What is wrong with traditional marriage, having Christian values, being prolife? Not a damn thing. But according to the NWO social scientist, it's DOUBLE PLUS UNGOOD. Anything that strengthens us as families and society is thrown out and degeneracy and hedonism is encouraged. We need to go back to a time when common sense and rationality were valued, not this overwhelming desire to be politically correct and avoid confrontation from leftist nutballs who are given much more leeway to push their agenda. And more than anything, I appreciate the tips on using the Alinsky method right back at them.
We are living in strange times. Sometimes it is confusing and frightening. But this book gave me hope.

This book should resonate with all men of good will. It is a much needed clarion call to stand up and fight like men. To act like real Christians and oppose evil vigorously.
The Gordon brothers tear apart those "conventional conservative" tactics which have made righteous men into chronic losers. They offer far more reasonable and common sense solutions and tactics to deal with dishonest leftists. They reveal the stupidity of common "boomerisms" which sadly have been handed down with the guise of parental wisdom.
The state of the Western world is dismal and pathetic. It's going to be a long fight to restore civilization, but the Gordon brothers offer the correct means of doing so. It this book proliferates, it can do serious damage to the leftist status quo.

The book could be far better when the author gets his anger under control as all tactical with little strategic guidance under than engage in the blame game thus his root cause is faulty. If you chose not or cannot define the root cause properly then you have little chance to define the solution properly. Two star has has some value though it comes nowhere close to Alinsky's 10-simply and succinct rules to advance the leftist cause to _______ and back.

The Gordon bros inverse Alinsky's Rules for Radicals for the other side while providing detailed explanations of the history, intentions and reasons for the radical playbook. One minor concern I have is that I would have preferred if the retrograde rules were hashed out in more depth. The majority of text is dedicated to describing the rads. Nothing wrong with that. But, more anecdotes and examples for how to adopt each rule could have been offered. I could see their personalities in the diction, but I think a more personal touch in terms of strategy was needed, especially considering their background in education and law. As a grad student I taught undergrad classes in poli sci and am currently a law school student. Believe me when I say that I have illustrations for every rule in your book from experience.
