Editorial Reviews

Review

"This story was light-hearted but surprisingly multi-layered, funny but scrumptiously sexy, showing us that sometimes the most addictive books come to us when you least expect them. Under a bubbly veil of upbeat dialogues and palpable chemistry between the characters, lies a charming tale of finding what counts the most in life and fighting to keep it. This book was the perfect balance of humor, drama, sizzle and romance, all nicely wrapped up into an entertaining story that I was unable to put down."

"Mason Nash melted me in this book. I loved, loved, loved this story. I haven't read one like it. Rapper meets hometown girl. It's original, I enjoyed Elisabeth's writing. It's a re-read. Yep!!"

"I was completely blown away by this story and finished it in one sitting. I am shocked that this is the author's debut book. I really love the way this author writes; I enjoyed the dual POV, the sex scenes were INSANE, and she literally made me laugh out loud."
- Three Girls And A Book Obsession

A "rock star romance" with a unique plot, this book had me hooked from page one, though it's the end of the first chapter where I was laughing out loud. The pacing was perfect and I would have read it in one sitting if I could have...darn life kept getting in the way! I loved the author's style of writing and thought that the dual point-of-view was particularly effective in this story. All that being said it was the characters that really shined in this story. Not only did I love the way they stayed true to who they were and what they wanted throughout the entire book, but the dialogue between them was fantastic."

Wow. This book had everything including a non cliffhanger ending. I liked Ellie as the female lead, she was independent and actually real, not wishy washy and making assumptions all the time. I've read a few books where I just want to strangle the heroine and tell her to just shut up and listen to Christ's sake. I loved Mason, I wasn't sure how I was going to picture a white rapper but who I kept picturing while reading this book was Macklemore and that made everything okay. Mason was sweet funny and was a man whore before we got to know him in this book but I'm glad the story didn't go on and on about his male whoriness.
Overall the story was great, I couldn't put it down. I would definitely read the next book by this author. Again I reiterate that this story didn't have a cliffhanger like so many books now a days have which was refreshing. Read it you'll like it!

3.5 Stars
Mason and Ellie's romance starts when Ellie literally falls into the bathroom at the beach house he's renting from her employer's real estate agency. Mason is a hip hop star; Ellie a recent college graduate looking for a job in her field. They both feel an instant attraction and it goes from there.

Mason and Ellie are a cute compatible pair despite coming from different lifestyles. They are both down-to-earth likable characters who see each other for who they truly are, not the media's persona, so you root for them to make it work, although they don't ooze chemistry. The love scenes that were there were okay in the beginning, but as the book progressed they were reduced to far too many "fade to" scenes or it already happened/brushed over scenes. Overall, you felt that the couple connected and were dedicated to each other which is always nice, but steamy hook ups were more of a vague mention rather than detailed.

Alternating 1st person POV, which I enjoy; however it would have been nice if the person "talking" would have been identified for that section because it wasn't always every other one, and sometimes you had to be a few lines into that chapter or section to know who was telling it.

On thing that really bugged me: Ellie has the repeated problem of being tagged in unflattering videos and photos on Facebook. She's supposed to have a degree in social media/communications and yet she doesn't know how to change her privacy settings so people can't tag her without her permission??? Come on!

Spoilerish: The story/plot was decent, and it was nice that for once in a romance story they weren't trying to be split up by an ex-love or wannabe love. Their drama comes more from the power of the media and the demands of his career. HEA with a second book on one of the supporting characters to come.

'Rumor Has It' is a New Adult contemporary romance that follows lead characters Ellie Wagner and Mason Nash as their two very different lives collide and their worlds are turned completely upside down. Ellie has just graduated college when an embarrassing video of her and her ex goes up on the Internet - which basically ruins her life by preventing her from getting a good job and being seen as a slut. That's how Ellie finds herself moving back in with her mom and her latest husband and wondering how her life went so wrong. Enter Mason Nash - the newest hip hop music star who's rolling in money and fame. What will happen when Ellie's dream guy is always in the spotlight - the last place she wants to be?

This was a fun and steamy New Adult romance with deeper issues mixed into the story. Ellie is a great leading lady for the book. She's smart and determined, but she's also incredibly flawed - which I think makes her all the more realistic and easy to relate to. She makes a stupid mistake (the video with her boyfriend) which then takes on a life of its own and puts her in some bad positions. We've all been in a situation like that before, which made me love Ellie all the more. Mason is the standard man candy of the story - gorgeous, rich, famous, etc. But underneath his public persona is a completely different guy - one who is sweet, kind, and romantic. I liked that the author put two sides to Mason's character, because most people do the same thing in life - even if they aren't famous. We all wear masks in front of others to hide things about ourselves, which made me like Mason more along with giving the story an added depth.

STACIA SAYS...

I was pretty much sucked into Ellie and Mason's story from their first meeting. Not only was it unusual, but it was laugh-out-loud funny. Ellie is a sweet, kind-hearted woman that doesn't realize her worth or beauty. After being publicly humiliated by a viral video, she tries to avoid anything that will draw attention to her.

She meets the sexy Mason Nash by chance and their chemistry is immediate and through the roof. What Ellie doesn't realize is that Mason is very much a public figure and being with him is going to put her right back into the spotlight.

I really love the way this author writes; I enjoyed the dual point of view (POV), the sex scenes were INSANE, and she literally made me laugh out loud. I can't wait to read more from this new author.

I give this book 4.5 bookies

ALEXIS SAYS...

As Stacia said above, I too was completely blown away by this story and finished it in 1 sitting. I am a huge celebrity stalker, so this book was totally up my alley. Ellie is just so darn sweet but had such an unfortunate thing happen to her that completely messed with her self confidence and just made her second guess everything. Ever since her video went viral, and honestly it could've been so much worse, she has been the brunt of job refusals, mean comments, and just all around heinous crap. I just wanted to grab her, hug her, and let her know everything will eventually blow over.
Enter hottie Mason Nash (with a name like that, how can he not be a hottie?) and wow did things blow over. I absolutely loved their first meeting. Elisabeth did such a good job writing that scene that I could totally visualize it.
