A perfect family is shattered when their daughter goes missing in this "brilliantly executed" New York Times bestselling thriller from a "master storyteller" (Providence Sunday Journal).
You've lost your daughter. She's addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she's made it clear that she doesn't want to be found.
Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she's not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble.
You don't stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home.
She runs. And you do the only thing a parent can do: you follow her into a dark and dangerous world you never knew existed. Before you know it, both your family and your life are on the line. And in order to protect your daughter from the evils of that world, you must face them head on.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Brilliantly executed...might be the best book Harlan Coben has ever written. For such a master storyteller, that's a high bar indeed but one Coben effortlessly crests...[Run Away] features an effortlessness and fluidity that define everything great storytelling should be. A fantastic read and early contender for the best thriller of 2019."―Providence Sunday Journal
"Harlan Coben is a master at taking what seems to be an ordinary family and exposing the facade and secrets that are buried just below the surface. With Run Away, his writing and storytelling are firing on all cylinders and the seemingly straightforward tale takes a sharp turn when it's least expected. The narrative continues to navigate that twisty mountainous road until the shocking conclusion."―Associated Press

"I'm a huge Harlan Coben fan, and I just finished Run Away--maybe my all-time favorite of his! In addition to the incredible twists and surprises that he is famous for, the book is a powerful and emotional portrait of a father's anguish at losing his daughter, and the limitless lengths that parents will go in order to save their child from danger. Impossible to put down!"―S. A. Lelchuk, Entertainment Weekly

With over 70 million books in print worldwide, Harlan Coben is the #1 New York Times author of thirty one novels including RUN AWAY, FOOL ME ONCE, TELL NO ONE, NO SECOND CHANCE and the renowned Myron Bolitar series. His books are published in 43 languages around the globe.
Harlan is the creator and executive producer for the Netflix television dramas SAFE starring Michael C. Hall, Audrey Fleurot and Amanda Abbington, and THE FIVE starring Tom Cullen and OT Fagbenle. He is currently filming THE STRANGER, based on his novel, for Netflix starring Richard Armitage, Siobhan Finneran, Jennifer Saunders and Stephen Rea. Harlan was also showrunner and executive producer for two French TV mini-series, UNE CHANCE DE TROP (NO SECOND CHANCE) with Alexandra Lamy and JUST UN REGARD (JUST ONE LOOK) with Virginie Ledoyen. KEINE ZWEIT CHANCE, also based on Harlan’s novel, aired in Germany on Sat1.
Harlan’s novel TELL NO ONE (NE LE DIS A PERSONNE) was turned into the renowned French film, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet. The movie was the top box office foreign-language film of the year in USA, won the Lumiere (French Golden Globe) for best picture and was nominated for nine Cesars (French Oscar) and won four, including best actor, best director and best music. The movie with subtitles is now available on Netflix, Amazon Prime and DVD/Blu-Ray.
Winner of the Edgar Award, Shamus Award and Anthony Award – the first author to win all three – international bestselling author Harlan Coben’s critically-acclaimed novels have been called “ingenious” (New York Times), “poignant and insightful” (Los Angeles Times), “consistently entertaining” (Houston Chronicle), “superb” (Chicago Tribune) and “must reading” (Philadelphia Inquirer).
In his first books, Coben immersed himself in the exploits of sports agent Myron Bolitar. Critics loved the series, saying, “You race to turn pages…both suspenseful and often surprisingly funny” (People). After seven books Coben wanted to try something different. “I came up with a great idea that simply would not work for Myron,” says Coben. The result was the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller TELL NO ONE, which became the most decorated thriller of the year. Two books later, Bookspan, recognizing Coben’s broad international appeal, named NO SECOND CHANCE its first ever International Book of the Month in 2003 – the Main Selection in 15 different countries.
Harlan was the first writer in more than a decade to be invited to write fiction for the NEW YORK TIMES op-ed page. His Father’s Day short story, THE KEY TO MY FATHER, appeared June 15, 2003. His essays and columns have appeared in many top publications including the New York Times, Parade Magazine and Bloomberg Views.
Harlan has received an eclectic variety of honors from all over the world. In Paris, he was awarded the prestigious Vermeil Medal of Honor for contributions to culture and society by the Mayor of Paris. He was won the El Premio del Novela Negra RBA in Spain, the Grand Prix de Lectrices in France, and the CWA/ITV3 Bestseller Dagger for favorite crime novelist in England. On the other end of the spectrum, Little League Baseball inducted Harlan into their Hall of Excellence in 2013, and Harlan is also a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame from his playing days at Amherst College.
Harlan was born in Newark, New Jersey. He still lives in New Jersey with his wife, Anne Armstrong-Coben MD, a pediatrician, and their four children.

In regarded to the one and two star reviews: ignore them.
Granted, this may not be a book you’ll want to read 100 times ( are there people who do that with mysteries? Not shaming, just don’t get it). The good news is; you don’t have to because Coben consistently writes a new book every single year, unlike some of the other greats. Gillian Flynn, I’m looking at you (but in a constructive criticism kind of way). He is like the Cal Ripken of crime fiction ( Dear Mr. Coben, please feel free to use that as your new motto.).
And, yeah, I don’t think this is his best ever. It’s still better than 97% of any crime/thriller book published this year.
You may not like the politics of some of the characters but they are referenced in only about three sentences in the entirety of the book. And this is FICTION. The really mild comments that some readers objected to are made by a make believe person cuz, again: fiction.
MOST IMPRTANTLY: Harlan Coben books are always fun and exciting and money well spent.
To put it another way, I read about 450 books a year ( not as weird as it sounds), most of them mysteries. I am a devoted fan of the biggies: Tana French, Nicci French, Michael Robotham, Kate Atkinson, Denise Mina, Jeffery Deaver, Lisa Unger, Laura Lippman and so on. Even so, each of them have written at least one book that left me disapointed. In 20 years of reading Coben’s every word, I have never been anything but delighted. He is the ONLY author I automatically pre-order because he always delivers.
As Simon and Ingrid learn more, they begin to realize that Paige is running from much more than an abusive relationship. Once they enter this underworld, they find that all their lives are in danger. Simon uncovers things about his wife and daughter, he could not even begin to imagine.
This thriller contains all the elements of suspense, danger, and surprise. I didn’t, however, really connect with the characters. The dialogue and characters didn’t ring true to me. I do think the author, Harlan Coban, had a great idea with his story. This is the type of thriller that action enthusiasts will love, and those looking for subtlety and nuance will find lacking.
Top reviews from other countries
Like many of Coben’s novels, there is a huge amount of story twist dump in the last chapter, which isn’t an issue in itself but does feel a little heavy handed. Also like many of the author’s previous work there is slight fourth wall breaking. “You never know what’s...”, “It’s the sort of thing you”, “people don’t realise that mobile phones...”- it’s not a new trait and works well in the Bolitar novels, but here, for me anyway, broke me out of the story a little. Overall, as always, a quick read that keeps you turning the pages, but if you haven’t read the author before it wouldn’t be one I’d start with.
One other point: I don’t know if this is true in the paperback version, but the formatting on the kindle version is AWFUL. For a major author and a key title for a publisher of this size, the dialogue in particular was very badly handled: run on lines, badly spaced to the point where at times it wasn’t clear who was speaking.
The characters had depth and the plot was based on everyday life events that exploded and rippled out, encompassing ordinary people in an extraordinary situation.
I would recommend this book along with all the other Harlan Coben books to anyone who just wants a brilliant book to escape into for a couple of days.
A bit stretched out making it a bit boring in many parts
Didn’t quite make me rush to read more
The writing is also superb. All his books are good and worth four of the five stars I always award but this one is worth all five. It has the action and the violence of every Coben book, it has the twists and the characterisation, the plausible plot and the gritty examination of the human condition with the true depth of the human psyche even more cruelly displayed. It has the throat grabbing lock on the reader's attention, it has all this in greater form than all his other books (those I've read - most of them) because this one is different. This book vaguely mentions a regular Harlan Coben character, just once and that character never appears because none of the regular cast is present.
I love his regular work and nearly avoided this one because it is different but now I know it's different because it is written properly, in excellent prose without recourse to familiar two dimensional "known" characters. Just slightly more Jane Austin than Mickey Spillane (I exaggerate for effect). I think this is his best writing and it made me work for the entertainment.
