    I'll be honest, I don't really know anything about hip hop music. I'm one of those people who used to talk about how much I hated rap, how terrible it is, and how it shouldn't be considered real music, etc, but Run-DMC changed my mind. I'm predominantly a rock fan, and Run-DMC's collaboration with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith (which is, of course, included on this album) has been one of my favorite songs for years, but I never really gave much thought to listening to Run-DMC on their own because I figured I wouldn't like them. I was wrong. Somehow I got to listening to a few of their hits recently and I really liked them, so I picked up this greatest hits compilation because it seemed cheap for the amount of songs included. And it rocks! I wish I had picked this up earlier because now I kind of want to dig into Run-DMC's catalog deeper. I also think that if you're a hard rock/heavy metal fan, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much they fuse rock/metal into their music. Maybe you can even convince the hip hop skeptic in your life to enjoy it.

    As for alternatives, there is also "The Essential Run-DMC" which features twice as many songs, but usually costs about twice as much. This collection is a good value for the price if you just want to "test the waters."
