"In the last few years, Eugene's writing has kept me sane. Run with the Horses has been a powerful manual for me. It includes a lot of incendiary ideas. I hadn't really thought of Jeremiah as a performance artist. Why do we need art? Because if we're honest the only way that we can approach God is through metaphor, through symbol. Through Run with the Horses I learned about the prophet's work and it really changed me."
Rebecca Manley Pippert, author of Out of the Saltshaker
"Eugene Peterson not only instructs us in his considerable wisdom about authentic discipleship, he helps us see the passion and excitement of living lives fully devoted to Jesus. And with the current torrent of interest in spirituality, his guidance on what constitutes genuine spirituality is pure gold.”
J. I. Packer, author of Knowing God
“Eugene Peterson’s special gift is to stand beside us and keep our feet on the ground as he lifts our hearts to God and our minds to godliness."

Everyone will have their favourite revelation moment, but for me, his discussion on page132 of the weight that crowds carry and how true it is, that the more people, the less truth, and that integrity is never strengthened by multiplication.
That holds true in every aspect of life. Just because "the Joneses" do something, doesn't mean it's right, or that we should follow suit to be "up with" them...
This book will make you re-evaluate your ethics and your morality in a way that only Jeremiah could put it, through the modern analysis of one of today's most astute biblical scholars.

Working is probably the wrong word, because as I've got into it, it is certainly not a chore. The subtitle is along the lines of "Living the best life you can". And certainly even just the opening chapters stimulate my thinking and challenge the way I see my relationship with God and thus the way I live my life.
It is relatively easy to read despite being written by an eminent scholar and I have found I read each chapter through and get a feel for the big point or points of the chapter and then go back and read it again, stopping and reflecting more deeply on what they mean for me and the way I live and relate to God.
The challenge I face and the work I have yet to do, is to start to apply these thoughts when I get home and back into the hustle and bustle of real life, rather than the peace and relaxation of a holiday. This will be harder but I'm looking forward to the challenge and all the ways that this will (hopefully) change me.
I was going to end by saying don't read this if you're not prepared to change, but even if at this point in time you feel you won't / can't change, do go ahead and read it. As you do listen to what God's Spirit is saying to you and who knows what might happen ...?
