It seems like Londyn McCormack has been running nearly her whole life, and this story starts with her about to embark on a cross-country trek to out-run the latest disappointment in a life that, at her young age, is already full of them. Fate and a flat tire leave her stranded in Summers, West Virginia, and there she gets her first real taste of a sweet, idyllic life unlike anything she has ever known.
Brooks Cohen is the epitome of a southern gentleman. Throw in the fact that he is tall, jaw-droppingly handsome and kind, and this man had me swooning on the side of the road right along with Londyn. He’s a good man to his core. His life has been nothing like Londyn’s, but he passes no judgment on her and accepts her for all that she is. As impressed by her mettle as he is taken with her beauty, Brooks truly admires Londyn's wanderlust spirit.
I loved these this couple so, so much. Their effortless banter, the delicious slow-burn tension between them, the mutual respect they had for each other were the sparks of an electrifying, soul-deep connection, and I simply couldn’t get enough of their interactions, their attraction, the lust and the longing. I don’t want to say much more about this story, except that it’s a completely original, one-of-a-kind, gorgeously told story full of all the best feels. I think readers should to go into Runaway Road not knowing much more than what is revealed in the blurb so they can experience the rush of emotions and the unfolding of this story organically.
Heart-warming, with just enough angst and a bit of suspense, Runaway Road had me glued to my Kindle as I devoured it in a single sitting. Cover to cover, this captivating, endearing and romantic love story did a number on my heart at it raced, ached, yearned or burned the whole way through. Devney Perry has outdone herself with what was clearly a labor of love, and readers are in for a treat with this addictively well written, thoroughly engrossing romance. Without question, this is a top favorite for the year, and I’m on the edge of my seat in anticipation of the next book in the series. Runaway Road gets five smooches from me!
Londyn may look like a well-to-do socialite, but she comes from humble beginnings. Her early life made her a survivor. She made her own family when hers failed her. She managed to find her own success, a marriage with a husband who helped her educate herself and learn how to conduct business. It seemed perfect. Then her life imploded.
Newly divorced, she’s leaving her old life behind to find her happiness. Her final destination is derailed thanks to a fender bender. Now she finds herself in a small town in West Virginia with the tow man who’s going to fix more than her car.
Brooks is one of the good ones. Sexy as hell, good with his hands and a great friend. A hot mechanic...YES PLEASE! His attraction to Londyn is immediate. She’s only passing through his town, but he’s not willing to just her go.
A story of self-discovery and finding where you belong. Londyn had been searching her whole life. Some things just happen in their own time, when you least expect it. This story gave us great characters and second chances. The chemistry was steamy and their fall was sweet. This was a wonderful start to this new series and I am looking forward to book two.
The story starts off with Londyn McCormack. She just went through a divorce and she decides to leave Boston behind her. She jumps into her cherry-red '64 Cadillac convertible and hits the road. In search of herself as she makes her way to California to find an old friend.
Londyn has been running most of her life. But destiny or fate has other plans. She ends up stranded in Summers, West Virginia where she instantly falls for the small town, the people, and the sexy mechanic who towed her car after an unexpected accident.
Brooks Cohen is the epitome of the perfect gentleman. It was hard to not swoon over him. He's transfixed by Londyn's beauty and spirit. He can't seem to shake these feelings and soon the more time they spend together the more deep things get.
Oh, the banter! It was so playful and sexy. Their love slowly bloomed while sharing dinners on a rock overlooking a lake. And let's not forget those moments spent on his boat. But Londyn is a runner. Will she leave Brooks behind or will she finally find her permanent home?
All in all, Runaway Road was such a heartfelt, fast read with just the right amount of angst and a dash of suspense. You will not get enough of these characters. Everything about this series will captivate your heart. Also, get ready for Gemma's story next!

This new series not only gives us a new town, and it's residents, to fall in love with, but also the promise of a cast of 'Junkyard Kids' we're sure to meet as the old Cadillac makes it's way across America to California.
It's stay in Summers was full of repairs and touch ups - much like what Londyn herself was in need of.
Certainly by the end of the season in Summers, Londyn is fully restored and ready for the new exciting adventure ahead.
I can't believe this was on my tbr for so long. It was certainly worthy of its place!
Runaway Road is the story of Londyn McCormack, who at the age of sixteen ran away from a home without food, money or love but filled with addiction. She lands at a junk yard with 5 others, and shares her home (a '64 cherry red Cadillac) with her teenage boyfriend Kayson. Though we don't start the story there, Londyn's journey begins much later in life, after a failed marriage leaves her feeling ready to run away again, to tackle the open road across country from Boston to California in the very same car that was her teenage home. Londyn spent a lot of money having the car updated and restored, to pass on to Kayson so he can feel the joy she has, relieving the happiest days of her youth.
When a lapse in concentration leads her to end up hitting the guard rail along the side of the road, Londyn’s travel plans are put on hold whilst she’s towed to the closest town for repairs. On the plus side, the mechanic that comes to her rescue is the hot as sin Brooks Cohen, someone she is happy to spend a few nights getting to know in bed, but the plan is always to leave. After her plans are derailed further when her newly repaired car is vandalised just as she’s ready to go, the pair get closer and closer and the small town begins to feel like home.
As with all Devney’s books, the writing is outstanding, you are thrown into the action from the first word and obsessed by the end of the first page. She manages to weave a story that can relate to everyone in someway or another and endears you to all her characters without you realising, leaving you desperate for more and heartbroken once it’s over.
A phenomenal start to the new series, I can’t wait for Gemma’s story in Wild Highway, or any of the others that are still to come. Again, with every DP book, I can’t recommend this enough. Everyone needs to grab a copy and devour Runaway Road.
This is a beautiful, sweet romance albeit with some steamy moments between the hero & heroine. In some ways Londyn reminds me of a teenager experiencing her first love when she meets Brooks. Despite the neglect of her upbringing she comes across as slightly naïve and innocent and I get the idea with her trying to locate her long lost friends the reality is she’s just looking for the security she had felt for the first time in her life when she was with them. Fear of making another mistake makes her wary of opening her heart and letting Brooks in when love is in front of her.
This author has such a way with words I could picture Summers in my head as I read her vivid descriptions of Brook’s home town. I can’t wait to read Gemma’s story next in Wild Highway and see where the road takes her.
A sweet love story, but we never got to know very much about her past and the reason she was really wanting her friend to have the car. Of course this is a series and the baton shall we say has already been passed to the next book shall we say. I await June to find out more!!
