Family is just the worst. We've all got that one cousin who's a raging turdhammer. My family thinks it's me: Loki, God of Mischief Extraordinaire. But it's not. It's not even Thor, hammer references aside. It's Odin, the AllDick. Listen, I'm not mad that I woke up in a woman's body after the apocalypse. These things happen. The problem is, Odin stole my runes. You know, the ones that keep me smart, charming, and oh yeah, immortal.
With the AllDick cockblocking my every move, a frenemy chicken interfering in my biz, and the strange, delicious feelings this new body has for the knight-in-modern armor who keeps coming to my rescue, I'll need every weapon in my war chest (which is bodaciously big--gods, how do you ladies sleep on these things?) if I'm going to survive.
Although, I've never been one for the bare minimum. Why only survive when I can thrive? If Odin thought Ragnarok was bad, he's in for the ride of his afterlife when he gets a load of the new me.

About the author

Calm like an F-bomb*, Kendall writes books about fierce women rockers who have a hard time keeping their clothes on, gender-swapped Norse gods who don't understand modern idioms, and the occasional murderer. Her aliases include Kendall Day (FALLING FOR MR. SLATER) and Seven Slade (COMING OUT).
Kendall lives near Athens, Georgia with her dashing geek husband, a one-eyed dachshund that thinks she's a cat, and an incorrigible yet adorable mutt whose ice-blue eyes will steal your heart and hold it for ransom.

Loki is reincarnated in the body of a woman who awakens in the modern era. Loki has to deal with not only the change of being a woman that is attracted to men...but also with all the changes the world has gone through: electricity, vibrators, pizza, fast cars, waffles. Ah, America!
Loki's on a quest to regain her godly immorality and to do that she has to find some ancient magical "runes". Joining her on her quest is a shy, handsome man named Gunnar Magnusson. And yes, just picture him as the name evokes - this big, hot, blonde Viking stud muffin. I'd probably be saying his full name like Loki is throughout the book too! That name is Yummy. I keep reading it as Gun Magnum...as in a very big gun. Wink. Wink. Anyways...Loki is attracted to Gunnar (who wouldn't be) and the tension that builds between them is deliciously frustrating! I was really hoping they'd get it on during this book...but alas, I think we'll have to wait until the sequel for sexy times. If there are no sexy times...expect me to write some steamy fanfiction featuring these two because they need to get it on. The ship name I've come up with for them is "FrostGun". What do you all think? Get on this ship, baby!
Also joining them on their quest is dark-haired Sanji from One Piece...I mean, Rich boy/Playboy Freddie...who's a hot, bisexual guy with a goatee that you just sorta ship with everyone. Everyone needs a Freddie in their life. Where can I get one? There's also a pet chicken who is crazy and lovable. You'll see what I mean.
I hesitated to buy this book, only because it's in the First Person POV and I tend to read only 3rd person POV stories. For a writer to be able to pull off a First Person POV they need a likeable Author Voice, AND a believable voice for the character. Kendall pulled it off! She's managed to create a badass voice for Loki which is not only entertaining but believable. I truly felt like Lady Loki was telling me her story.
I can't wait to see how the adventure continues in Book 2!
Book 1 is definitely a stand-alone adventure. But trust me, you will fall in love with the characters and want to see them tackling a brand new adventure together.

(Author of the Genderbent Fairytales Collection)
However, this Loki finds not caring a little more difficult than the old one did thanks to the influence of the young man who rescued him/her from the ice at the start of this adventure. Gunnar Magnusson turns up to rescue Loki again at the airport in New York.
Together with Gunnar's friend, Freddie, and Hugnin (Odin's raven now a chicken), they go on a road trip to Atlanta in search of Leguz, Loki's rune of intuition. More misadventures make for chuckles for the reader and a few chances for Loki to learn that kindness and compassion aren't weaknesses and friends stick together.
The twist at the end I .never saw coming and I mean that in the best possible way. Very enjoyable story

Odin, however, has sent one of his ravens, Huginn, to keep an eye on Loki. Huginn is incarnated as a— wait for it—cross-eyed chicken.
After he wakes, Loki is rescued by Gunnar Magnesson—think Chris Hemsworth as Thor but dressed in a lumberjack shirt and jeans. He’s an archaeology student working part-time as a tour guide who’s returning home to America to resume his studies. Gunnar Magnesson returning to America is important to the plot. Loki’s runes are calling to him, and he’ll have to travel west to find them. So, Loki stows away on a plane to New York, Huginn in tow, and is rescued again by Gunnar Magnesson after they land. By the way, Loki always refers to the male lead by his forename and surname.
Since this is the first of three books, Runed describes a road trip to Atlanta to obtain the first rune, Laguz. Loki is accompanied by Gunnar Magnesson and his stoner friend Freddie, a robot builder with wealthy parents and a WeedPop business that’s diversified into lollipops.
Runed has a crazy but believable plot, and its main character narrates it with a great voice. In addition to the comedy, the relationships are well developed. While Huginn is supposed to be spying on Loki, the two grow fond of each other and the chicken’s loyalty to Odin—with the occasional neck squeeze from Loki—is tested. Loki is constantly distracted because his female body is attracted to Gunnar Magnesson. The man is a gentleman and protective towards her. He believes Loki’s behaviour is the result of a mental breakdown, and so he won’t return her advances. Freddie, who’s funding the road trip, is a good friend to Gunnar Magnesson and grows equally generous to Loki.
Rune is well-written and filled with plenty of fun moments. There’s also a great plot twist to watch out for in this first instalment of the Asgard Awakening series.
