I loved this book, couldn't put it down. One minute I was laughing, the next crying. A bit of an emotion roller coaster at times. It hit home, as my Aunt was just diagnosed with cancer, the first member of my small family. It made light of the big "C" and good helpful tips to head you in the right direction, and think about living healthy. Way to go Deb!!
With candor, wit and rich language, Smith describes the world of breast cancer and the women who bear it, in her memoir, Running from Cancer. Not one to go easy on herself, she plumbs the depths of confusion and despair as she faces the diagnosis, surgery, chemo and radiation and fights to regain control of her life. Coping with the deaths of her mother, brother and former self, Smith shows how tenacity, courage and the support of family and friends can prepare one for the 'battle stations.'
Holy tits and tiaras, Deb! Thank you for sharing your roller coaster life and fight from cancer. Previous comments say everything I want to say. Your book should be on the suggested reading list for anyone that hits the cancer jackpot. "Here's what is going to happen to you and here's how you are going to survive it!" The icing on the cake for me was your excellent writing skill. I can't wait to read more of your work.
Running From Cancer is a powerful reflection of Debi's journey through cancer - delivered with raw honesty and refreshing humour! This roller coaster journal rests on a solid structure of information about cancer diagnosis, treatment, side effects, and prevention. Thank you, Debi!!
