Rhonda Cramer's book does a wonderful job of fleshing out so much more to the story of Jonah and the whale then those earlier encounters we had in Sunday school, making it a much more interesting story and relevant for us today.
Rhonda breathes new life into the story of Jonah, making it come alive and full of character. There are many life lessons here to learn -about obedience, gratitude, compassion, willingness of spirit and God's patience and mercy.
Her writing style is a pleasure to read and she does a superb job of combining the story of Jonah with relevant scriptures. Here the author helps us understand the verses by using her writing skills that take this popular Biblical story to a new level. The readers can almost picture themselves as they walk beside Jonah to hear his inner most thoughts and feel his emotions tugging inside him as he struggles with God's commands. Along the way we suddenly realize we too are much like Jonah, struggling with our very own everyday problems and situations, and even running from God.
Rhonda Cramer's writing skills bring deeper meaning to Jonah's struggle by using words that paint a mirage of pictures in the reader's mind as to what is going on. The author takes informative side trips that teach us about the people in Jonah's day, the world around him, and the different cultures. Running From Your Nineveh touches us on so many levels it will give readers a new perspective, that will not only enlighten them, but perhaps give each of us a second chance to change our own ways, habits and thought patterns.
This book would make for a wonderful Bible study. After reading Running From Your Nineveh, the reader may not want to turn away from God's commands and wishes for them.
