About the Author

Nicklas Kingo was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1990 to a Danish mother and Australian father. He spent his childhood in the suburbs of Copenhagen and around South Australia. After finishing high school and travelling around Asia and Australia trying to figure out what he wanted to do, he got into modelling doing runway shows for the biggest brands in the business. Besides modelling he spends his time travelling, writing and learning about everything that fascinates him. And he feels like a total douche-tool for having written this biography in the third-person himself. www.nicklaskingo.com https://twitter.com/NicklasKingo http://instagram.com/nicklaskingo https://www.facebook.com/NicklasKingo1 http://about.me/nicklaskingo

I breezed thru this book in no time flat as I did rather enjoy it. Lots of humor including passages like "Me and the boys were on the open bar like flies on dog poop" , "newb mistake #1 : Not bringing either a hat or shampoo to a job (and) walking around town afterwards looking like Slippery McSlimeyson" and "I opted for the caramelized banana and pecan pancake stack with enough syrup to send John Goodman to the ER." This was balanced with more reflective statements like "Every decision is made in the very last second, which makes it hard for models to plan anything" and "once you're able to free yourself from social comparison completely, you will learn to live peacefully." Some language noted (which was to be expected) but overall book gave me a good sense of the ups and downs of the fashion world and made me realize it wouldn't be my choice for a profession. Very good book!

Just don't. Not worth it.

It took me 45 minutes to read this. Poorly edited. If he wrote it in English, then he needs a better English editor. These aren't even memoirs. It's a a lame bragging session.

There is no "insider knowledge" of the Fashion Industry. There are no helpful hints about becoming an International Model. The only specifics that he gives are in the food he gets to eat. Really? Models eat like that? Huh.

The only benefit I got from this was reading it while in the sun. I've now increased my Vitamin D intake and have a bit more tan.

I really enjoyed reading this book because I have personally experienced the world of high fashion. If you plan on engaging the fashion industry this is a great guide of the good and the bad that comes with that industry. It can be a beautiful industry and a fulfilling journey if you are prepared, and this is surely a great tool.

Although a short read, Kingo's writing is a peak into a world revered from the outside, but mostly empty on the inside. There are many documentaries and autobiographies on the lives of female models, but the perspective from a young male model is hard to find. The strongest point of Kingo's writing is definitely the voice. He doesn't hide behind a shield of verbiage, but is consistently authentic and light. Although Kingo has only a few seasons under his belt, I do feel like there is a lot of untapped material that I hope researches the surface soon. My first day of assisting a stylist in Paris, I had to listen to my boss whine over the phone to his casting director about the boy we were shooting that weekend looked 2kg heavier than 2 months before and that his agency should suggest an all water diet for the week. If that was on my first day, I can only imagine what else Kingo has yet to divulge.

He's a young man still finding his way, typical for his age.
It will be interesting to see what occupation he eventually settles into.
While I knew what I occupation I wanted when I was just in high school,
I did not know who I was until a few years after college
As the old saying goes, "The two most important days of your life are when you are born
and the day you find out why you were born."

Fashion, Models, Travel, NYC - Yes, Please! I love the fashion world and literally inhale anything there is to read about it. Interestingly enough, I have not read much from the male model perspective. Author Nicklas Kingo provided a great first memoir. It was honest and intriguing with just a bit of scandal to satisfy the trash tooth. I find it refreshing how honest he can be on staying fit, losing weight, and otherwise fitting the fashion image. It gets tiring to hear so many women chalk it up to great genes. Nicklas clearly worked hard to become a model and get a taste of the jetsetter life. Fortunately for him and the reader he does not fit the preconceptions of male models and provides an interesting and thoughtful insight on his foray with fashion. I thought this memoir was the perfect length, I could read it in a few subway commutes. I would be interested in hearing more of Nicklas's perspective though on fashion and traveling. His sarcastic (and at times crude) humor matches well with my own personality.

I enjoyed this short read about the life of a fellow human being. Don't expect much of a narrative, but I appreciated hearing about the authors PoVs as i could really relate to them and I'm in a similar situation in my life. I think tremendous value could be added if he just expounds on exactly how he got started in modeling. I will be taking you up on that beer, though niklas!

I will aim to emulate the style of Nicklas and be short and sweet; This book is extreme. Your life will be more extreme just by reading it. Read it now and make yourself more extreme.
It's also informative, inspiring and entertaining, but most of all, it's just extreme.
