Nick Messina comes into Lone Swan Inn. Callie dubs him "Dirty Fingernails" and is suspicious of his every move. A former lawyer, Nick is now working as a mechanic. When Callie hears Nick's name it sounds familiar to her, but she cannot place the name amongst the suspects she has arrested over the years. A gunshot from a passing van at Nick's
Uncle Pete in the Inn's Parking lot provides the catalyst where two people, who have nothing in common, unite to solve the mystery.
Nick sees Callie as a beautiful woman. But he tries to avoid getting involved with her because he doesn't want to fall in love with someone who has little faith in God. Callie does not trust lawyers because of what she's seen as an undercover cop. Nick has no use for cops because his brother was killed by a cop. Neither Callie nor Nick tell the other
what they previously did for for living as they dance around their pasts.
Although there is a very strong underlying attraction, they both want to avoid it as much as possible. Since Nick is a practicing Christian he knows that there is no future for them. Yet love blooms despite them. Then another tragedy strikes and Callie, in her sadness, hurts Nick with her behavior. But they must find a way to work together, or they may not have a future at all.
A Rush of Light by Penelope Marzec is a romance for all ages. It is a very
telling story of how Nick, who has Christian beliefs, continues to grow in them and learn lessons as well. He has to learn to let go and trust in God, to focus on learning forgiveness. When Callie is faced with Nick getting hurt, she turns to God and prays. I liked the way the characters
cared about each other.
This is a sweet romance with a few chaste kisses. This is not for someone
looking for a very sensual read. The characters are very real, they come alive in their thoughts and interactions. I liked the way Nick and Callie cared about each other. I look forward to seeing more Ms Marzec stories. I recommend A Rush of Light for those wanting to explore a sweet, spirit filled story.
