This is one of the smartest romances I’ve ever read. I love books where the heroine’s career matters to her, and I appreciate authors who don’t skip past these scenes in a rush to the bedroom.
It operates at a slow boil for the first 25 percent, with Alexis, the US diplomat and beautiful divorcee, working on an issue involving Russian aggression. Of course the hero is Russian and aggressive, and Alexis had to fight to keep her wits about her against his extreme attractiveness. Patience pays off for Alexis and the reader. She gets scorching sex as well as important information.
The major conflict as Victor seduces her is the history between Russia and the US. Alexis’ predecessor was fired for an affair with a Russian, and Alexis can’t be sure Victor is fully interested in her, or in compromising her mission.
A romance reviewer on Amazon called it boring, but I really think she was expecting something else. This is a romantic spy story, that will definitely be appreciated if you already enjoy spy novels.
This plot/story is absolutely unbelievable - a top female US diplomat in Moscow has a steamy fling with a handsome and enigmatic Russian ex-submarine Captain (who is clearly a spook and associated with the Russian Mafia) to find out the reason for military tension between Russia and the Ukraine (the Captain's birthplace). The diplomatic situation is critical because a US Presidential visit is days away.
I liked the main characters because of their charisma, strengths and weaknesses and magnetic attraction to one another. The diplomatic stuff is well written, the Russian stuff well researched and the steamy stuff is entertaining and not too over-the-top.
This is not my normal genre. I read it as an interlude between heavy reality espionage stuff and even heavier historical sagas and I enjoyed the interlude. It was a pure romp in the land of escapism which I probably need from time to time.
Talk about seduction: the author seduces the reader at every turn with forbidden romance between two people who have ulterior motives and spying backgrounds, keeping the reader on the edge of the chair and turning pages faster than you can say Stoli vodka.
If you like forbidden romance, intrigue, and are interested in how things are done in the diplomatic circles in Russia, you'll love The Russian Seduction.
I found this story well crafted and addictive. I didn't want it to end. I liked the authentic feel of the characters, with their hidden insecurities, fears, self doubts and beautiful moments of vulnerability. But, I also liked their independence, strength of character and drive.
The pace was brisk and didn't stall. There was plenty of action and excitement with ultra steamy love scenes. It literally feels like the temperature in the room rises!
Definitely want to consume more from the author.
