THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.

I came across this book while looking for another and since I liked the blurb and all the reviews looked good I decided to give it a try.
I made it to 20% I found it a bit creepy really Vladimir is a Russian billionaire who's obsessed with Carter to the extent that I suspect he orchestrated a meeting with her father and offered him a job, I suspect he's the reason he needed a job so badly in the first place but I didn't read that far, the reason he appears to be obsessed is because he was in love with her sister before she died.
Carter's still at college Vladimir gets her fired from her job so he can hire her and see her daily, he gives her alcohol even though she's not yet twenty-one, ok I've no real issue with drinking since I'm British and our drinking age is eighteen but it's the fact that he encourages her. One Friday after drinking with him Carter promises that's she's not going to be drinking or hanging out with boys just a hockey game then girls night in with her friend Kiki.
Of course she's lied she goes to a house party and drinks then when she can't sleep she's wandering the streets at 5.30am looking for a coffee shop.
My issues are Vladimir is the pakhan he's a man and while he may have been in love with her sister Carter is so immature and irritating it's unbelievable that he's drawn to her at all she annoyed the hell out of me.
So I got to 20% and I'm thinking I just can't read anymore so I decided to read the reviews incase anyone else had the same concerns but mentioned that it picked up.
What I did discover is apparently it's a cliffhanger the first in a trilogy where the other books are not released yet.
I hate unannounced cliffhangers and while you could argue I should have checked first just how difficult is it to put 'CLIFFHANGER' in the blurb.
I will say I wouldn't normally review a book I haven't read completely but I didn't want you to make the same mistake as me.

5 oh my gosh stars!!! I received this book an an ARC, and honestly I had no idea what I was getting. When the book showed up on my Kindle, I could not even remember what it was supposed to be about, romance-I figured? So I started reading about Carter, a college freshman who’s dad gets a new job opportunity when her family is about to lose everything. The one stipulation; the new boss, Vladimir wants to meet his daughter. From page one you are asking yourself questions, and it does not stop until the end, and then some. Vladimir is a Russian Mafia mob boss; aka pakhan in Russian. Vladimir is sweet and enduring, but when the pakhan has the “crazy in his eyes” as Carter says, you fear for your life. This story is told from Carter’s POV which is perfect as we feel every emotion with her- happiness, love, lust, and especially fear. We find out early on that Vladimir and Carter have something in common, Carter’s deceased older sister Sophia, hence the reason Vladimir has come into Carter’s life in the first place. Vladimir hires Carter to work for him around his house after classes and tennis practice, this way he keeps her close and seduces her through praise and adoration. Carter always has eyes on her through Boris, Vladimir’s sovietnik-trusted advisor. Carter and Boris have a trusted love hate relationship as Boris goes through any means necessary to prove a point or protect Carter. Yes this book has many many references to the mafia, and the dangerous encounters that happen in the world of the Bratva (Russian mafia family). Some scenes are very descriptive and can be very upsetting.Read more ›

It isn't too often a book keeps me completely compelled through the ENTIRE BOOK....and let's face it, we often "skim" through the boring pages....not so with this book.

Some Spoilers...and why I took a star away for such a compelling novel....

I love the premise of this book, a guy that found the love the love of his life, she died very tragically, and he then becomes obsessed with the younger 19yr old college age sister, because of her "hauntingly" resemblance to his lost love.

I love especially how she describes the characters...they are "beautiful" but flawed....what I mean by that is they are not perfectly described with "perfect even white teeth etc etc, or no flaws to their beauty so to speak".

But I love the intrigue...who is really bad, who is redeemable, and who is just a plain monster. You just can't tell when it comes to Boris or Vladimire. They both are just compelling in their own way and just as equally monstrous as they are generous (well Boris not so much but he hasn't off'ed anyone yet)

Why I took away the star. Why is Vladimire and Boris constantly on Carter to be "good" yet systematically and almost daily insist she drinks several shots of vodka (even before sending her on her way with friends telling her to "behave"). Did he hurt her sister like this? Is he obsessed with her because she looks so much like the sister, or does he really want revenge because the sister was attempting to bail her sister out of trouble when she was killed)....it's so hard to TELL which way he is.

Boris, I don't have ANY idea what to think when it comes to this guy, he can do some pretty nasty things to Carter. His motives as to why are so unclear....
