When I decided to rebuild my galvanized boat trailer I knew I need a better cold galvanizing compound. After lots of research I found ZRC. This stuff is great and has lasted. The can is very heavy as 95% of the contents is zinc. It is very hard after drying and no scratch problems. It also comes in bright new galvanized finish or old dull galvanized finish. Of course I choose old. It also comes in a spray.
The Rustoleum product is OK if all you require is a fairly temporary coating that won't need to take any abuse, but it's a far cry from a quality cold galvanizing.
Rustoleum also makes a quart size in a brush/roller/spray on version, which is also 95% zinc. But it is not nearly as user friendly as the ZRC quart product. ZRC covers better, thicker, and adheres better.
After several months now, I checked and found the finish to be much harder than before - it does NOT scratch easily. Perhaps the directions on the product should indicate the recommended drying/curing time to attain the desired hard finish.
Yes, I do recommend this product.

Very high quality primer, but it requires a latex top coat for proper adhesion. Not exactly what I had in mind for my boat stands, so I have to prime again with Rustoleum Universal... Read morePublished 10 months ago by John L.
This is a solid grey paint. It doesn't give the camo look on galvanized trailers. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It is a very tough paint.Published 12 months ago by Swampman
I touched up a weld area on a street sign pole more that a decade ago with this product and it has held up as well as the original galvanized coating.Published 13 months ago by Michael
