Top Customer Reviews
The Rustoleum "Metallic" line has a silver color, but I would only use that for smaller metal or wood projects (picture frames, etc) as it's not as durable and it doesn't look as true to color when used on a large project.
The Aluminum shade is perfect if it's Chrome shine and sheen that you want. It's clean, pure and never looks "muddled" like the Chrome version.
*WARNING: whatever you do, do NOT use clear enamel over Bright Coat or Metallic spray paints, it will instantly dull the color and turn it into a light gray (silver shades) or orange-yellow (golds).
I deducted a star because on the front, the can says the spray is fast drying (which if you use Krylon or Design Master is 15 minutes), but on the back it says allow 24 hours to dry fully. I found that the item I sprayed was still tacky to the touch after a couple of hours, and this was in dry conditions with about 60 degree temp.
So, if you are looking for a color that matches dull side of aluminum foil, this is a good choice, but just realize it is not really "fast drying"
Aside from the shine they all had a major flaw... when gently rubbed, after significant drying time, the paint came off and tarnished the surface. I'll post some pictures to clarify what I'm saying.
In the pictures you'll notice the reflection of my feet and that Rust-Oleum (left side)has the best reflection. The Krylon "mirror" spray paint (center) was junk. And Valspar's reflection (right side) was still okay. You'll notice the stripes on which I used a paper towel to wipe the paint. One appears to be more exaggerated than the other but this is due to the reflection of objects behind me. I would say the smudging problem is pretty similar for both.
