What she didn't know, was that her late husband left behind a debt that would never show up on the books, much as the name of the person to whom that debt was owed would likewise never show up.
Lachlan Mount, so much more than an underworld kingpin, is the man who owns not just half of the property in New Orleans, but more importantly, through various means, owns the allegiance of virtually all of the city's underworld, and no small number of “upstanding” citizens. A man who lives in shadows. A name that people who know it fear to whisper.
And now, in lieu of a payment he knows she couldn't possibly make, he's decided to own her.
As an admitted Meghan March fan, I've been looking forward to this book for some time. Not simply because it's been written by Meghan, but perhaps even more so because of how she's spoken about the book as she was writing it. How consumed she was with the characters and the story. How her entire writing process, a formula that's been quite successful to date, changed as the task of getting these characters and their story took over her life.
Now that I've read it, I totally get that. Almost every one of Meghan's heroes to date have been strong alpha males who had a purity of spirit hiding beneath a rough and sometimes broken exterior. Not so with Mount. He genuinely is what his reputation would have you believe. Cold, callous, calculating, ruthless. All the nasty with no discernible redeeming qualities.
Keira, on the other hand is perhaps more than his calculations allowed for. Proud, confident, loyal, determined, and with the kind of stubborn streak that comes from already having been broken, embarrassed and humiliated.
The combination of the two provides for no small amount of conflict and tension, as Keira bends, but refuses to break, despite her unwanted physical attraction to the man who holds all the cards, and despite the very real danger that a man of his nature has no need to threaten.
Still there's something there. Something between them hints at fissures in his facade, and a recognition on her part of something incredibly right amid everything so terribly wrong.
As revelations keep turning the narrative in different directions, what struck me most was that the intensity of this book. The sizzling attraction undercut by coercion and threats, the hints of nobility that are almost completely obscured by the seedy underhandedness of Mount's entire world, the sense of anticipation that built from the very first page and surely didn't end with the last.
A gripping, thrilling ride that had me breathless, and left me thankful that there's only a few short weeks before the story continues.
Same story...girl runs family business, boyfriend/husband has secret (to her) double life and she’s in debt...que that bad man wants her and is owed the debt...blah blah blah..
I might finish it some day since I paid for it (and if I’m wrong I’ll change this review) but I won’t lose any sleep reading this...
Ruthless King....is EXACTLY that. You should hate him. Loathe him. But good god almighty, I FREAKING LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!! It’s 3:30am and I am seriously so full of adrenaline that I might not sleep tonight. THIS BOOK!! It’s the dirtiest of the dirty. The sexiest of the sexy. Hottest of the hot. And so god darn wrong that it’s pure PERFECTION. I can’t even form comprehensive thoughts right now. I am not saying anything about this book. Just that Lachlan Mount and Keira Kilgore are FIRE. Lava, dynamite, NUCLEAR!! You are going to crave these two. And probably need church afterwards for the sinful thoughts you will have. YOU WILL HAVE THEM! And you will love every single one of them. Don’t even get me going on that ending!!! Meghan March truly went for the shock factor with this one!
YOU NEED THIS BOOK LIKE YOU NEED YOUR NEXT BREATH!!! BUY IT NOW!
What I love about Meghan is watching her writing grow. Each book I read of hers, I always think this is her best yet. And then she writes something like this. It’s darker, more sinful, a little different than her others. Sometimes authors try different. They step out of their norm and it either works or it doesn’t. It definitely works for Meghan March. This is her best book to date. And I’m saying this now, this is my #1 pick of 2017. One of the best books that I’ve ever read. Not just this year....but EVER!! I also need book 2 now. Just putting that out there. This is why I love books with cliffys. I love the feeling of wanting more. Like the season finale of your favorite TV show. That feeling it leaves you with and knowing you will be getting more. Sometimes the best things are the things you have to wait for. Makes it that much better!!
Thank you Meghan for your fascinating mind, your thoughts, your words that I crave, and most importantly...your talent. I love you!!!
Again, BUY THIS BOOK!!!

In debt to the bank, whiskey distillery owner Keira is determined to keep ownership of her family's Irish high quality distillery. Then she also finds out that she owes a debt of half a million dollars to Lachlan for a loan her cheating dead husband took out on the distillery. This puts Keira on Lachlan's radar. And in payment he wants 'her'.
With no alternative, even her best friend can only raise one hundred thousand dollars, she reluctantly agrees to his demands and finds herself kept a prisoner, depraved of her basic rights and freedom. She has to keep her liaison with Lachlan secret, stay/sleep in a flat he owns, has to be escorted to and from work and also submit to his erotic wishes and sexual desires. Otherwise, he threatened to seek out her friends, family and employees and most likely kill them.
I read every word of this story, even though I just wanted to throw it down at times and walk from the evil in it. Then right at the end there is a shocking cliff- hanger which leaves me wanting to read book two of this Mount trilogy.
This book is a little gem, the fact that the female came across as having a backbone (which I love) was a nice change. Finished with a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers!
Not long to wait for next one which is great.
I have very few list of books that stand out and would read over , this is now one of them !
If your like me and fed up of the same drivel , I would recommend this book .
Lochlan Mount is the King of New Orleans. He knows exactly whats happening in his domain and he rules it with an iron fist. He is known as a mean son of a bitch. He gets everything he wants and he doesn’t care who he has to kill or go through to get it.
Keira Kilgore has lived a good and sheltered life and now she has finally taken over her family’s business/legacy Seven Sinners Distillery. Which she has big plans for that her father wouldn’t allow her to do when he was still in charge.
One evening when Keira is working late and is walking back to her office, which is in the basement of the distillery. She senses that something is off, as she walks in to the office. A deep voice tells her to shut the door behind her. She recognises the voice as the one her dead husband was arguing with before he died. As she turns towards the door her desk lamp is switched on bathing her desk in light, but she can’t see the mans face as he has stood up.
The stranger is her office turns out to be non other than Lochlan Mount. He then goes on to tell her, that her dead husband had taken out a large loan against her distillery. That with him now being deceased his debt now becomes her debt. Not only is the debt being passed on to Keira, she is being given 7 days in which to pay it off.
Over the next 7 days Keira keeps finding copies of the agreement made by her dead husband, with the days counting down until the deadline. Along with photo’s of her family and friends. Showing her that he knows everything about her, and that he can get to her anywhere.
Keira goes to her best friend for help as she hasn’t got the kind of money that Lochlan Mount wants her to pay off. Plus the distillery is still in financial trouble. Her friend says she could come up with some of the money but it still falls short of the amount that is needed.
However Lochlan Mount has his own perfect solution for Keira’s predicament. He wants her as his sex toy/play thing and for her to be available to him any time he wants. Meaning that she has to also stay at his secret compound. Keira reluctantly signs the agreement but she wont let him take her so easily, she will fight him all the way.
Keira doesn’t know that Lochlan Mount doesn’t care about the money, he just wants her as she is the only person that tells him straight and stands up to him. Which he finds refreshing.
One night she manages to escape Lochlan Mounts compound, as they forgot to lock her in her rooms. Once she gets outside on the street she realises that his compound is actually a full block in a familiar part of the French Quarter.
The only place Keira can escape to is her apartment. So she flags down a taxi, and keeps looking over her shoulder all the way. She’s expecting Mount or one of his goons to turn up and take her back. Once she enters her apartment and locks the door behind her. She looks around to see if anyone has been there, but everything looks exactly as she left it. That is until she goes in to her bedroom where makes two unnerving discoveries. She makes the third discovery when she goes to see who is knocking at her door. This discovery proves to be too much and she blacks out.
Who was it at Keira’s apartment door that made her blackout? Well I’m not going to tell you, as you’ll just have to read the book to find out for yourself.
But now, with a half a million in debted to the most dangerous man on earth she has to decide how will she fight the man who isn't going to take no for answer and kills people for less. And he wants her body. The problem is many of his mistresses disappear shorty after he is done.
I loved the mind games and the tension between these two. Sometimes I felt scared for Keira and what will Mount do to remind her who he is and how he deals with people who disobeys him.
I'm frustrated where it ended, but the suspense and her unique storytelling kept me on my toes until the end. I want to scream how much I need next book!!!
🔸These books ARE only Novella length. I wouldn't have read book #1 & been hooked by those cliffhanger endings if I'd known the prices & book lengths before hand!!😔 I wish I'd read the reviews & not just downloaded a free read that cost me £9.98 🔸
Keira is trying to save her family's whiskey distillery after her, now dead, husband bled it dry. Then she's dealt an almost fatal blow - he'd borrowed half million dollars against it from the King of New Orleans, Lachlan Mount. He's ruthless, relentless & deadly, she's got 7 days to pay in full of else!!😲💥
This book is full of fear, tension & rage from Keira. But she also can't help how her body reacts to Mount!🔥🔥 The sexual need between them is palpable & not as hell. It ends on one heck of a cliffhanger.💔 With the next 2 books a fiver each they had better live up to this one's quality or I'll be gutted.😢🙏🍀

What a way to end this the first book of three! I’m off to read book two.
Meghan March this book had everything you promised and so much more!!!!!!!!! You were so right it did consume me. And still continues to do so.
This book this the first book in the Mount trilogy.
This book does contain a cliffhanger.
I run this town you don't know my name and if you do its because you are in my debt which isn't a place you should be! I made an impulse decision to help a distillery I didn't need to help but I knew I'd get the one thing I wanted out of it in the end.
Keira couldn't believe the mess she found herself in, at that b*****ds hands. But now to add to her troubles she's owned by the one man she never wanted to meet. Can keira keep her family's business going and dig herself out the deep hole her ex has put her in. Or will everything start to unravel and not in a way she can control.
Meghan as always you didn't disappoint with the start of this trilogy it pulled me in from the description and continued to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the book, I fell in love with Keira and her attitude, but can not wait to learn a lot more about Mount he has me intrigued as to what's his full past like I continue to imagine all sorts. Book 2 can not come fast enough for me.
She's trying to save her business so she makes a deal with the devil, prostituting herself or he takes her business off her.
She hates him but he has this nack of bringing out the bad girl.
Well written but heavily detailed sexual activity with some strong scenes. Characters are ok but I liked the banter best as it was very entertaining and funny.
Very similar to other stories I've read. First book by this author.
This is the first time I’ve read something form this author and it won’t be the last!
The plot is well written and gripping, the main characters are well written and enigmatic. I love Keira as she is so feisty and angry and doesn’t give in easily, and I love Mount as he’s just horrible yet totally desirable.
It ends on a cliffhanger and I’m gutted I have to wait for the next instalment.
Mr Grey,I feel you’ve met you match in this anti hero!!!!
I love the characters. Keira has taken over her family's whiskey distillery and sorted finances to get the company in a better position. Unfortunately she finds out her late husband took on a major loan she cannot pay. She now owes a huge debt to the worst man in town, Lachlan Mount. She can't pay. He sets the terms. She fights every step of the way but he is a master in strategy. What he wants he gets. He deals with Mafia, Bratva etc. He is ruthless.
