Ryan Harvey is an author of science fiction and fantasy, and the recipient of the famous Writers of the Future Award in 2011. His winning story, "An Acolyte of Black Spires," appears in WRITERS OF THE FUTURE VOL. XXVII. He is a regular columnist for BLACK GATE magazine, and his fiction has also appeared in EVERY DAY FICTION and the anthology CANDLE IN THE ATTIC WINDOW.
He has lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He did a stint in Minnesota at Carleton College, where he earned a degree in History. He has worked as a story editor, speed-reading instructor, and copyeditor--all in the service of writing novel after novel in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and especially the shadowy zone between. His ongoing series in the continent of Ahn-Tarqa explores the many different nooks of science-fantasy in a literary gumbo of dinosaurs, bizarre tech, and fantastic adventure.
His writing influences include Leigh Brackett, Robert E. Howard, Tim Powers, Clark Ashton Smith, Cornell Woolrich, Raymond Chandler, Edgar Rice Burroughs, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Michael Moorcock.
Aside from writing--with more ebooks coming soon!--he as a strange obsession with 1930s '40s fashions and swing dancing. Aside from writing success, he also seeks to establish himself in the science-fiction and fantasy community as "the guy who always has a hat on!"
