I usually love RYKAs and wear them exclusively to teach fitness classes in. I ordered these to replace a pair of the same style that has worn out.
They arrived super fast.
The first thing I noticed was that there aren’t any toggles on the laces. Inconvenient, but not a big deal. I tried the first one on and it felt a little small. I figured it’s because I’m used to my old ones and these need to be broken in. I tried the second on and it felt even smaller. I took them off to check the size and noticed the tags look like they’d been applied twice. So I pulled off the top tag and discovered different sizing underneath. One was originally tagged as a 7.5 and the other a 7. I ordered 8.5. I’m not sure that those are even the correct sizes - they didn’t feel that small to me. Maybe an 8 and a 7.5. The packing invoice even lists them as two separate items, rather than a pair of shoes. Obviously, I’m returning them.
I returned them and ordered another one in my true size. And they fit perfectly!!!
Overall, the sneaker feels really comfortable. But based on reviews, I ordered 1/2 size up, which is too big. I'm returning and getting my true size.
I'm assuming others felt it was too small because of their socks. But I bought this to wear on water hikes, and definitely don't want to go hiking with soaking socks; I think it defeats the whole purpose of having quick-dry sneakers.
So if you plan to wear these without (thick) socks, get your usual size.
However, since the trip I have used them in my pool to workout and like them for pool use. I am able to run in the pool without scraping my feet and they are helpful to keep balance when using weights in the pool. The fit is comfortable, but like other reviewers I have difficulties keeping the laces tied in the pool.
Overall I like these shoes and will continue to use them in the pool, I just made a poor decision in using them for hiking/caving.
They’re easy to take on and off (even when wet), drain quickly, and dry off pretty fast if you take out the inserts.
I’m a size 9, though I usually size up to 9.5 in sneakers. I bought these in a 9 and they were great with or without socks. 9.5 would prob have been fine too. Love them!
