Batteries are alright, but are cheap to replace. These tools will last you a long time for around the house use. I have the Drill, circ saw, recip saw, flashlight, and will be getting the impact driver. The good thing about ryobi is that their tools work with either the NiCad battery or the Li Ion battery. If you get these without astronomical expectations, then you will be satisfied.
Several reviews blame the battery. But my experience tells me the battery is the only good component of this set. It will fit into a battery drill I got from that freight company and works just fine with a much shorter working time. But the motors in the Ryobi either take a lot of power or don't have any horsepower as the Ryobi drill simply doesn't keep up with the off brand, even when using the same battery. The saw won't even make 3 full crosscuts in soft pine 2x3. It's dead half way though the 3rd cut. It doesn't even like 1/2 in plywood.
In general, you're better off buying another battery drill and staying away from the battery saws entirely. But the battery in this set is good.
UPDATE: Nope! I was wrong. The battery isn't as good either. Although it charges in half the time, the Ryobi battery only lasts 1/4 of the working time of the other brand between charges.
I have used more expensive equipment, and it did feel like higher quality tools, and the batteries charged quicker and lasted longer, but for the price, the Ryobi stuff is a good deal. My dad bought Dewalt equipment at about the same time I bought my Ryobi and his original batteries are still good. So, if I have to keep buying batteries, I will someday pay as much as if I had bought the Dewalt tools.
Anyway, this stuff is good, just not as good as more expensive stuff.
The price here, though, is way too much. You can buy these tools MUCH cheaper at Home Depot or similar.

I bought these tools knowing they were not pro-grade tools. They are a good buy for someone who does odd jobs around the house but I would not recommend them for anything serious. Read morePublished on March 31, 2012 by Daniel
