Study the Bible with one of America’s greatest theologians.
Charles Ryrie’s life work was to help people know and understand the Bible—a pursuit that encompassed church ministry, college professorships, and, most notably, his position as the Systematic Theology Chair at Dallas Theological Seminary. Yes, the pages are thin, but I am able to write on them with my super fine-point markers and it is not bleeding through.
Others commented about not having room in the margins to write, but I am satisfied with the amount of room in the margins and I am able to open the Bible fully and it will lay flat.
I ordered it in the King James Version because it was not available in the New King James version. I would have preferred the NKJV or HCSB. I am using this as a study Bible and am comparing it to a couple of others including the HCSB New Scofield Study Bible and the Reformation Study Bible (ESV).
I find the Ryrie notes very well organized and formatted on the page so it is easy to find what I am looking for. I also find the timelines very helpful. It allows me to get an idea of what was going on in the rest of the world at the estimated time each book was written.
Since I am getting older, I need a bit larger print in order to read without eyestrain. I find the Ryrie Study Bible is large enough for me to read comfortably.
I am also enjoying the actual notes in this Bible and learning from them.
Regarding the binding: It is less than wonderful, as other reviewers have said. However, the one I got is NOT crooked or flawed like other reviewers experienced. It is simply not the highest quality bonded leather and I doubt that it will hold up with hard use. I saw that another reviewer had theirs re-bound, and I will look into this when the binding falls apart. I did choose the bonded leather rather than the genuine leather because of the previous reviews. I thought if I would need to have it re-bound I might as well save a few bucks on my original purchase.
I definitely recommend this Bible, and hope that someday they will make it available in the NKJV or HCSB.
Edited: I forgot to mention that at the beginning of each book, this Bible has in-text maps which I find VERY helpful! This is an added bonus that none of the other study Bibles I have include. It also has color maps at the back, as most Bibles do. I appreciate not having to turn to the back to get a snapshot of the interaction between Israel and her neighbors, for example.
The bible pages are sort of thin, but the printing is line matched, and the pages are opaque enough that it is clear to read.
Ryrie's notes are there to lend some clarity to some texts, but I really appreciate the cross referencing more than notes, and the theological and doctrinal materials along with charts and maps make this an outstanding study bible.
The font of the text is easy to read also and the pages are not cluttered.
My favorite bible!! Probably my last.
Lots of room to write in the margins (see photos) and the paper is thicker than most bible pages so you don't get a lot of ink bleed through. You get some, but not bad! The faux leather feels good. The pages are gold gilded, and it has a nice heft to it. It came in a sturdy box.
RE: the "study" aspect - the bottom half of the page gives added info and direction regarding what you're reading so you get the context and other info that is helpful. I think you can see an example in the photos I posted.
Overall this would make a great gift to a high school or college grad, or for yourself, or any occasion really. I highly recommend it. I'd prefer to go to a Christian bookstore and compare everything, but with Covid and having to order from home, I'm really happy this was such a perfect purchase!

As always with His word we should not just hear it but take it in, only then will we live by it. We must NOT just allow His word to effectively just be an instruction book, but be open to Him so that the Spirit of God makes it alive, then it will not only be in you but by allowing Him to have His way He can work through you; making you as He wants you to be.
I am very, very pleased with this copy of His Word; I think it was an extremely good purchase.
