After reading a bunch of reviews on other wheeled backpacks, decided to give this one a try, although it looked a bit tall on the pictures.
The bag arrived and the first impression is that it looks very "elegant." The backpack does feel light, but it looks well built. After carrying the backpack for a week and taking it on a couple of trips, I find myself comparing this bag to my older targus bag and here are the things that I wish were better in my new bag.
The handle feels sturdy enough, but unlike my targus bag, the handle only has one position that it locks to, while the targus bag had 2 positions where you can lock the handle to. If you're a tall person, this is a perfect fit; my colleague who is just 5 feet tall said that she found the handle uncomfortable. A halfway point for the handle to lock would have been perfect.
Something I definitely find weird: the flap on the back which covers the back straps. When you want to use the straps, you undo this flap, which zips all the way to the top of the backpack, and when unzipped, it kind of dangles all the way down, as you can see on the pics. To avoid the flap from hanging down, you can just of course, un-zip it half way through, or kind of adjust it to the straps so that it doesn't hang. This design is kind of weird and on my targus bag, this flap is half way through, so you don't even notice is there.
The front pocket has some holders for pens, phone, etc, and this holder sits kind of high. This is an advantage if you quickly want to look for something, but becomes a disadvantage if something falls out of the compartments and now you have to go "deep fishing" to find the item. A zipper could have helped here to keep items from falling.
The main compartment and middle compartment have two zippers, but strangely enough, the front pocket only has one zipper. I'm so used to my older backpack having two zippers, so I got used to closing the front pocket by grabbing the two zippers and closing the pocket with the zippers half way through. You realize having the one zipper is a disadvantage when you put your bag in the overhead compartment of a plane, and you realize you want to get something out of the front pocket, but the zipper is facing away from you. As they say, first world problem, but two zippers in the front pocket would have been consistent with the bag as the other two compartments have two zippers, not one.
My biggest pet peeve is that the compartments fall forward. Once you put a laptop in, unless you close the bag halfway through, the laptop compartment will cause the other part of the bag to fall forward. I finally got used to just opening the bag half way through so that the bag has some sturdiness to it and the compartments don't fall forward, once my laptop is in. However, the advantage of this design is that the bag doesn't weight as much so if you're taking a European low cost carrier, you can fit in more this bag.
What I love about the bag is that now for my short weekend trips, I don't have to have another smaller carry on bag; I can fit my clothes in this bag and all I take is one bag. The construction of the bag is very solid, but only time will tell if things start falling apart.
As far as the bag fitting under an airplane seat---I flew on both, a 737 plane, and a so called Bombardier Regional Jet 900, which sits 1 person on one side, 2 on the other. Because the backpack is a bit long, it took a bit of effort to make it fit under the seat in the 737 plane, but once I got it down there, it fits ok, and had no problem taking it out. It also fitted under the seat of the bombardier jet, but I sat on the one seat side, so not sure how it does on the side with two seats.
I have to say that this is the first time that I had 3 different people at the airport compliment me on the bag. They wanted to know the brand name as they thought the backpack looked very elegant.
Positve: Material is really nice. Zipper handles, material, and overall quality of the bag is top notch. 3 compartments in front and main compartment with laptop sleeve inside. Negative: Wheels on the bag do not run as smooth when using it. Has some rub when rolling.
