About S.A. Larsen
S.A. Larsen is an award-winning author, childhood apraxia of speech advocate, and Maine-iac ice hockey fan, who has watched more hockey games than she could ever count. She also has a soft spot for the strange and misunderstood, which might explain her love for dipping plain chips in ketchup. Her favorite stories push the boundaries of our world and open harbored emotions to inspire and challenge the heart. She's the author of Motley Education: The URD Saga Book I (Ellysian Press, 2019; second edition), a fantasy-adventure for middle grade readers and Marked Beauty-her debut young adult fantasy-romance (Ellysian Press, 2017). When she's not chasing her characters around a cemetery or antagonizing them with the wonders of young love, she lives in the land of lobsters and snowy winters with her husband and four children. Visit her cyber home at www.salarsenbooks.com, find her on Twitter @SA_Larsen and Instagram sa.larsen, or on spookymiddlegrade.com, where she does most of her spookiness brewing up all sorts of creepy ideas with a group of #SpookyMG authors. Stop by for a visit . . . if you dare.

Blog postHere we are at our third IWSG post of the year. Crazy, right?
I've decided to veer from our optional question for a minute to share a little of my recent snowmobiling weekend in Maine.
This is MOUNT KATAHDIN
Here's a few interesting facts. The trails were like highways. Amazing!
Lastly, here we are in front of Mount Katahdin. This IWSG optional question is: Everyone has a favorite genre or genres to write. But wha3 hours ago Read more -

Blog postHappy New Year!
Knowing that, for most people, Covid put a huge damper on any New Year's celebrations, I still have to ask - Did you do anything special, anyway? How did you ring in this new year?
Me - my hubby and I went out to dinner with friends and called it an early night, thankful that we could go out at all.🦋🦋🦋
Moving forward, the IWSG (optional) monthly question is an intriguing one. I really had to think about this one.Image Credit

Blog postWith every ending comes a new beginning.
This can be applied to every aspect of our lives from friendships, employment, projects, preferences, and relationships to the actual rising and setting of the sun. Some elements in our lives can come to such a sudden end it can even feel like death has stolen them away. But the hope we live in is that Death has no power of over us, no matter what type of death, that we can always begin anew. "That all things work together for good to them3 months ago Read more -
Blog postWe've come to yet another IWSG posting day. I'd like to thank this month's co-hosts - Jemi Fraser, Kim Lajevardi, L.G Keltner, Tyrean Martinson, and Rachna Chhabria - for all their efforts!
I've decided to answer this month's optional question.

Blog postI feel like it's been forever since I've chatted with you. Back in the days when I had no worries - writerly speaking - other than writing posts and blogging, I can remember being so excited to scan everyone's blog posts to converse.
I miss that. And I'm sorry I haven't been around much. Like most of you, the world's current situation has jumbled up a lot. But it's also been an important time of self-reflection, life pondering, and a deepening in my faith in God. All this is necessary, and5 months ago Read more -

Blog postWell, we've arrived at our third Insecure Writer Support Group post of this pandemic. Maybe it's the fourth. Guess that depends on where you live. Any hoot, today we're exploring this question:
Do you have any rituals that you use when you need help getting into the ZONE?Care to share?

Blog postFear. Isolation. Loneliness.
That's mostly what I've been hearing or reading since #socialdistancing and #selfconfinement began a few weeks ago. I get it. It's hard. It totally stinks. There is plenty to fear, plenty to feel isolated over, and plenty to box each one of us into the confinement of loneliness. Well, I mean we writers kind of exist in a self-confined world for the most part, but you get what I mean.

Blog postWe've all heard the phrase Write what you know, so it's no surprise when parts of an author's personality, experiences, hopes, dreams, fears, and goals sneak into a character, scene, or world he/she is creating.
This month's Insecure Writer Support Group's (optional) question is:

Blog postHAPPY NEW YEAR!
What is one of the most common questions people ask when a new year rolls around? Can you believe it's the beginning of another year? Where did last year go?This can churn all sorts of emotions: joy, excitement, growth from reflection, and sometimes angst in the gut - especially for writers. Blog postThis year has been a dud, at least for me and my family. I don't like stating that out loud, let alone writing it the way I just did. But, as my husband often says, "Sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade."
I've despised the way I've felt about writing throughout this year, but even-more-so about my lack-luster approach to all of you - my cyber friends. Some of you have been blogging with me for over ten years now.

Uncovering hidden secrets can sometimes kill you . . . or worse, steal your soul.
Anastasia Tate has a secret. She can feel the emotions of others through their life energy auras. Not a welcome gift for a teenager. Especially when a sinister presence begins stalking her.
Viktor Castle also has a secret. He’s tasked with protecting humanity yet cursed by an ancient evil to destroy it.
After Viktor saves Ana’s life, her abilities grow stronger. Drawn together, she senses Viktor has answers to lifelong questions. Only he shuns her at every turn, knowing he has saved her only to put her in more danger.
As Ana struggles with her attraction to Viktor, he tries everything to bury his unexpected feelings for her. But they must find a middle ground. For only together can they combat the dark forces threatening both their lives . . . and their souls.

MARKED BEAUTY was a fabulous read. It’s a YA contemporary fantasy with tons of exciting and dangerous otherworldly happenings, romance, and a large cast of varied and interesting characters. Ana, the main character, can feel the emotions of others through their life energy auras. This gift is not only powerful, but it’s overwhelmingly difficult for her to live with. Her situation becomes even more difficult after the mysterious Viktor saves her life. As they are drawn together romantically, powerful forces threaten to destroy not only their relationship, but the lives of their friends and the world as they know it.
Simply put, MARKED BEAUTY is beautifully written and compulsively readable. Perfect for readers who love YA fantasy and paranormal romance. – Pat Esden, author of the DARK HEART series

Larsen’s MARKED BEAUTY is a lovely story with magic, mystery, and love. I found myself lost in the wonder of the world she created existing within our own. Lots of lush imagery, well-rounded characters (I just love Viktor.), and plenty of danger to keep you turning the pages. Keep an eye out for this author—I really think she’s one to watch. – Danielle DeVor, author of the MARKER CHRONICLES

MARKED BEAUTY is a compelling, magical masterpiece that hooks you from page one and doesn’t let go. Ana and Viktor’s story is a timeless tale you’ll want to read over and over. – Natalie Decker bestselling author of the YA romance series RIVAL LOVE
