I just rec'ed this copter, have flown it once, indoors...it appears the perfect match for indoor/outdoor flying, not too big for one or too small for the other, altho I haven't tried outdoors yet. Must be windless, no ceiling fans or breezy windows...have fun!
PS...I've read about a lot of copters rec'd defective, but I haven't had a prob yet, this is my 8th copter, biggest so far. I like Syma. If you're worried about defectives, just make sure you buy from "Amazon Fulfilled", approved seller, so you can return w/in 30 days no questions asked. I further recommend you make sure the copter has a dedicated charger, not a remote box charger....fly stronger, longer.
PPS...I ordered the Coat Guard version of the 109G, but it has the Remote/battery pack type charger, altho advertised as USB chargable...sent it back, no probs
PPPS....I have researched these copters pretty well to find the best (no weird batteries, proper charging, best review, etc.), and recommend w/ confidence
I too have had the same experience as others have mentioned regarding sudden loss of signal/reception at very close ranges. Apparently this plagues all 27mhz rc systems. Alot of things interfere with that frequency including the helicopters' own motor. I've discovered one small improvement by wrapping the antenna wire in a loop small enough to slip over one of the landing gear. I am also going to try two things mentioned in a forum search regarding 27mhz signal improvements. One person said that they fixed all of their signal problems by replacing the antenna wire with a 4.5' long thin copper wire from a home improvement store and wrapped it back and forth and around itself between the landing gear. If that is the case then it sounds like it's a matter of total surface area. The other improvement said to open the remote and add a similar wire to the antenna base and wrap it all around inside of the case.
Some Syma basics:
For the helicopter to find the remote(aka "bind" to it) turn the remote on first then turn on the helicopter.Read more ›
It has a really poor signal reception. I had sent emails to the seller, telling them sometimes im barely 3 meters away from the helicopter and i lose range of it. According to specs, it has almost 30mts range, i can barely get 10% of that. Its very well made, and can take some beating, coz mine has dropped down several times because of the same issue, and still has no damage at all, but it really bothers me that i gotta be 2mts close to the helicopter to not lose signal and keep in mind u got a huge antena from your transmiter, so its not funny at all.
I got another Symas, infrared ones, and those got more range indoors than the S113g that is radio controlled (27mhz)
I had taken it outdoors on a calm day, and my range is a little bit higher, but nothing near 30mts or 100 feet (thats what Specs say), can barely take 6mts and its already falling down out of nothing.
For me its not that easy to ask for a refund or change it, because i live in Guatemala and i have to ship it all the way back to the US, so its gonna be more expensive for me to ship it back and get a new one than keeping it. So basically, im stucked with the damn thing, and not happy at all

As others have noted. It has serious signal problems. Otherwise it flies great. It's a shame.Published on July 17, 2014 by Marty L. Marlett

Thought that this would be a good purchase, but is was a waste of money. The antenna gets caught in the blades and it does not fly very well. Save your money!Published on April 10, 2014 by An Amazon Customer
It was wonderful for about two hours. It flew well and was easily controlled for the two hours it was played with the night we received it. Read morePublished on December 12, 2013 by Amazon Customer
