It will even deploy from your hip or over your shoulder if an attacker approaches you from behind. This model is refillable and comes in several colors – red, purple, zombie green, black, and pink – with sales from the pink model supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation (over $1,000,000.00 donated as of summer 2014!)
Police Worldwide Carry SABRE
SABRE is the #1 trusted brand used by police departments worldwide. Officers on six continents and in more than 40 countries carry SABRE pepper spray. Fast & Easy Deployment
With Spitfire’s unique design, it’s easy to deploy your pepper spray over your shoulder aiming backwards or from your hip.
Exclusive HPLC Guarantee
According to a study by the University of Utah, pepper spray will fail 30% due to weak batches. 30% failures can result in serious injury. SABRE is the only brand which eliminates these failures due to weak batches by operating an exclusive in-house HPLC laboratory. SABRE products are also supported by the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 Certification as an added means of guaranteeing the highest production quality.
Personal Safety Academy
SABRE has worked with our law enforcement partners to create the Personal Safety Academy and College Safety Program. These programs teach techniques to outsmart and discourage potential threats and protection methods to escape safely. As a bonus, you’ll receive access to a free safety tips video with your purchase. SABRE wants to help people be prepared, not scared.

When I gave it to her, I had her go out to the backyard and try it out for a test spray to feel how you have to press forward and down on the button. It had a conical fog pattern that came out. A couple of seconds after spraying directly in front of us, we caught a little whiff and started coughing and immediately ran inside. Curious as I was, I didn't feel like standing there and actually getting a bigger whiff. Well, it seemed to work.
Initially, I was worried that it might go off in her purse. But, after testing, it was evident that you really have to press down and forward in two different directions with intentional force. It's not anything accidental. It's been one year now, and it has never gone off accidentally, and she's had it on her keychain, where she just tosses it in her big purse or backpack full of hard objects and big books. So far, so food. I don't think you have to worry about that. That was one of my concerns.
I would highly recommend that you have the user do a test spray to see the pattern (conical) and range (about 4 feet?), and to see exactly how much pressure you have to apply to the button and in what direction. Admittedly, my GF took about 2 tries (4-5 seconds of fiddling with it), before getting it to spray finally. That would be really bad if she had to take time to figure it out during a real encounter/situation! Once she got it though, she now has the reference point for if/when she actually needs to use it.
This is an inexpensive tool that hopefully you or your GF will never have to use, but gives you a little peace of mind. It's easy to carry, and it actually looks pretty cool, unlike a lot of the other mini-keychain holster deals that looks like the carrier is some kind of criminal. I don't think people even know what it is. A couple of times, even I was in instances where I kind of wish I had something like this walking around some unfamiliar places late at night . And I'm not a small dude. ;)
I deducted a star because unfortunately after having it for a year and a half the keychain cap had started to loosen.
It is somewhat over-sized in my view, but it fits on her keys quite nicely as she typically has them in a jacket or her purse - it would not fit comfortably on my keys in my jeans pocket however.
The first SABRE Spitfire I bought failed after a few years of regular carry - the quick-detach plastic device on the tail end failed. Given the price point of the product, I was not overly bothered by this failure, but it is something to be aware of.
I would encourage any purchaser to do two things: regularly check the pressure of the OC capsule inside (the manual describes a float test that can be performed) and buy an inert training cartridge and train with it - I can't find them on Amazon but my local law enforcement supply store has them. The spray comes out of the Spitfire in a cone, not a stream like I was used to from most other OC spray products - make sure the user is familiar with how to operate the Spitfire as well as the spray pattern, so they don't spray themselves.
Finally, no tool is a replacement for being aware and alert of your surroundings - if you're approached by someone while you're texting or otherwise distracted, good luck reacting even if you do carry chemical spray (or anything else for that matter).
